Fabrizio Romano shares “serious” Elliot Anderson update; Man Utd hold internal talks
Fabrizio Romano has now dropped a big update on an impressive midfield star who could be headed to Manchester United.
Gary Neville bemoans Man Utd “Groundhog Day”
Although it’s easy to believe that he’s still got the influence of the boss, it’s been over a decade since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson and the Red Devils are yet to move on.
They’ve tried serial winners, old heroes and even the next big thing in Ruben Amorim. All have failed. Even with INEOS at the helm and the promise of a new era, those at Old Trafford have found themselves back to square one on the hunt for a fresh face in the dugout.
It is rinse and repeat as far as Gary Neville is concerned and the Man United legend bemoaned the “Groundhog Day” taking place at his old club amid talks to appoint Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on an interim basis.
“They put Ryan [Giggs] in charge 10 years ago, then Ole came in charge and you go back to the old boys, then you go for a new one, then you go for more experience.
“It is almost like a cycle, like a movie we have all seen before and Groundhog Day. What I do think is Ole is someone who absolutely loves the club, he knows the job, he has been in the job.”
It’s a cycle that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Co. must look to end in the summer if they are to turn the club around. Even if that means ditching the idea of Man United’s ‘DNA’, they must make the right decision.
Before then, reports suggest that it Solskjaer could, indeed, get a second stint at the wheel before the focus is turned towards a more permanent option.
It’s hardly going to be a strong selling point for any potential arrival, but that is unlikely to stop Jason Wilcox and his team in pursuit of an impressive midfield star.
Fabrizio Romano: Man Utd “serious contenders” to sign Anderson
According to Romano, who was speaking on GiveMeSport’s Market Madness podcast, Man United are “serious contenders” to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest in the summer.
The transfer expert said: “He’s very high on the list of Manchester United. Together with Carlos Baleba, there are two, three players that Man United are tracking. I think they’ll be busy with midfielders in 2026 and Anderson is one of them. I’m sure Anderson will be in the conversation.
“There is going to be plenty of clubs keen on him. Manchester City are also going to look for midfielders, let’s see what happens at Chelsea.
“So I think it’s going to be a big battle, but at the moment what I can say is Man United have mentioned his name several times internally, so I expect them to be serious contenders.”
It’s easy to see why that interest is there in Anderson. The Nottingham Forest man earned incredibly high praise from England boss Thomas Tuchel earlier this season, with the German dubbing him an “elite player” and “one of the best midfielders in the Premier League“.
