Storm Goretti hit overnight as a Met Office yellow weather warning for snow remains in place for the region until midday
Greater Manchester has seen widespread travel disruption after Storm Goretti brought snow, wind and rain to the UK overnight.
Thankfully, the region managed to avoid the worst of the ‘multi-hazard event’, which brought tempestuous conditions to the South West of the country and heavy snow to the Midlands overnight.
A Met Office yellow weather warning for snow remains in place for much of the region until 12pm today, with Storm Goretti likely to bring “heavy snow leading to disruption and difficult travelling conditions later Thursday and into Friday”.
Some parts of Greater Manchester have already been impacted by the weather including Oldham and Rochdale.
Significant snowfall in Saddleworth has resulted in the A460 being impassable this morning due to the wintry conditions in Denshaw this morning.
The Met Office forecast says the North West of England will mainly be cloudy, cold and wet with rain or sleet at times, with some snow falling mainly over the hills for the rest of the day.
This evening, isolated showers are forecast turning wintry over the hills. The rest of the night will be mainly dry with clear spells and a risk of frost and ice.
