Aston Villa have now reportedly set their sights on signing an England international, who Unai Emery is a long-term admirer of.

Emery: Aston Villa “working” on January deals after Alysson

This time last year, both Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio arrived to galvanise Aston Villa’s season and take the Midlands club to Champions League qualification. Now, the Villans look set to dip back into the winter market in the hope of enjoying similar success.

Aston Villa look set to make another move for a star who could emulate Morgan Rogers at Villa Park.

When asked about January recruitment, Emery recently told reporters: “The club is working on it. The people with this responsibility are trying to add information about possibilities. In case we can improve the squad, we will do it. In case someone is leaving as well, we are alert for it.

“I am happy with how we are doing the process this year, even with the difficulties and some mistakes we made in the summer. How we were in the summer, with the circumstances we had in that moment, and now how we are, overall – and the response of the players – I am so proud of it.

“Each match and competition is a new challenge, so we must be so demanding and consistent to get the next step forward with the same idea and style. Hopefully we can perform.”

On the transfer front, Villa have, of course, already announced their first addition in the form of young Brazilian Alysson and will now be looking to push on even further.

Just who arrives next is the big question. Away from the youngster, it seems like Villa’s next priority will be to add a player who the Premier League should certainly be familiar with.

That could provide quite the problem for Villa, who are always aware of any potential PSR issues and could do everything to avoid a hefty transfer fee this month as a result.

What’s more, Gallagher may also have to think about taking a wage cut if he wants a return to the Premier League. As things stand, he reportedly earns around £150,000-a-week in Spain, which would make him the second-highest earner at Aston Villa.
