Drake & Scull subsidiary wins $19.9mn water infrastructure contract in Egypt

Drake & Scull unit lands Egypt’s water infrastructure

Passavant Energy & Environment GmbH, a German engineering and technology company in sustainable water and energy turnkey solutions that is a subsidiary of the Dubai-headquartered Drake and Scull International (DSI), has been awarded a US$19.87 million (EUR17 million) sub-contract as part of Egypt’s Tanta Wastewater Treatment Plant Rehabilitation.

The rebuild of the Tanta WaterTreatment Plant, which is being designed for a treatment capacity of 100,000 cubic metres a day, will be built adjacent to the existing 60,000 m³/day facility. The project scope includes a turnkey design-build of mechanical and electrical systems for both the water and sludge treatment lines, with a focus on high operational reliability and minimal environmental impact.

The construction phase will span 27 months.

Passavant secures Egypt wastewater project

As per the agreement, Passavant will be responsible for the design, engineering, procurement, installation, testing, and commissioning of process-related electromechanical systems and piping inside all major structures of the plant.

Passavant will also look after the operation and maintenance of the plant for the following two-year period, ensuring seamless performance, operational efficiency, and capacity building through the training of local personnel.

Once completed, the project will significantly enhance water treatment management capacity for the region, contributing to cleaner water resources and improved public health outcomes.

This contract reinforces Drake and Scull International’s position in the water and environmental infrastructure sector, where it continues to deliver complex, high-impact infrastructure projects across the MENA region. It also highlights Passavant’s growing presence in Egypt and the region, leveraging its longstanding expertise and German engineering excellence to deliver sustainable solutions for essential utilities.
