Freddie Flintoff’s net worth, Top Gear crash and more
The 48-year-old returned to the public eye for the first time in nearly two years in 2024 after an accident on BBC’s Top Gear back in 2022 nearly killed him.
Flintoff has taken on various cricket coaching roles since his return after the Top Gear crash, while also making a return to TV on Freddie Flintoff’s Field of Dreams on Tour (BBC) and Bullseye.
A new documentary about Andrew Flintoff was also released on Disney+ last year.
“Flintoff” gives viewers “unprecedented access” to Freddie’s life, covering everything from his cricketing career to his “life-altering” Top Gear crash.
The programme also showed the Preston-born star’s return to cricket after the car crash.
Andrew Flintoff’s cricket and TV career
Flintoff played county cricket for Lancashire before making his Test debut for England in 1998 (against South Africa at Trent Bridge, Nottingham).
He went on to represent his country in 79 test matches, 141 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and seven T20s.
Flintoff scored 7,315 runs and took 400 wickets across all three formats for England during his international cricket career, which spanned from 1998 to 2009.
He also captained England for a brief period from 2006 to 2007.
After his international career finished, he continued to play T20 cricket for franchises around the world, including the Chennai Super Kings (IPL) and Brisbane Heat (BBL).

Following his cricketing career, he made the transition to TV.
During his TV career, Flintoff has hosted the likes of Total Wipeout, Ninja Warrior, and Top Gear, while also appearing on shows like A League of Their Own.
He even took part in the first series of the Australian version of I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! in 2015, which he went on to win.
More recently, he has appeared on the BBC docuseries Freddie Flintoff’s Field of Dreams and hosted the reboot of Bullseye on ITV.
He has also taken on several new cricket roles in the past few years, helping the England Cricket Team as an assistant coach, while also being named head coach of England Men’s Lions Team and the Northern Superchargers in The Hundred.
What happened to Freddie Flintoff in Top Gear accident?

But the former England Cricket Team captain’s time on the show was cut short after he was severely injured in an accident at the Top Gear Test Track – the Dunsfold Aerodrome, Surrey in December 2022.
‘Freddie’ Flintoff flipped a Morgan Super 3 vehicle on one of the bends at the Top Gear test track during filming for the show, while not wearing a helmet.
Describing the accident on the Disney+ documentary Flintoff, the former international cricketer said he was travelling at around 40 to 45mph when the front wheel came off, and the car flipped.
Because it was an open-top car, Flintoff’s face scraped along the tarmac.
At one point, he said he was dragged under the car for about 50 metres as it slid across the runway, before it eventually hit the grass and flipped back upright.
Flintoff added: “I thought I was dead because I was conscious, but I couldn’t see anything.”
The presenter sustained “significant” facial injuries, including losing portions of his upper and lower lips and broken and lost teeth.
There were reports Flintoff’s crash was so bad Top Gear staff who witnessed it had to be signed off work indefinitely as they struggled to come to terms with an incident described as “something you would truly want to unsee”.
After months of speculation, the BBC finally made the decision, in November 2023, to rest Top Gear for the “foreseeable future”.
