The future of dystopian sci-fi series Black Mirror has finally been confirmed
The long-awaited confirmation about dystopian sci-fi series Black Mirror’s future has finally arrived after nearly 12 months of anticipation for fresh episodes.
Available on Netflix, the Charlie Brooker-created programme explores technology’s sinister aspects and its disturbing impact on society.
Season 7 dropped on the platform in April 2025 following a two-year gap, delivering six unsettling new instalments for audiences. Featured storylines included a woman’s survival hinging on an unaffordable subscription service, alongside a reclusive man confronting his past actions through innovative technology enabling him to enter old photographs, reports the Mirror.
Speaking to Netflix’s Tudum, Brooker revealed another season is definitely happening and pledged that what follows will be “more Black Mirror than ever.”
“Well, luckily it does have a future, so I can confirm that Black Mirror will return, just in time for reality to catch up with it. So, that’s exciting,” he confirmed. “That chunk of my brain has already been activated and is whirring away.”
Whilst no launch date has been announced, Black Mirror devotees have been thrown into excitement by the news, with many already eagerly anticipating the moment they can devour new instalments. One enthusiastic viewer wrote: “Black Mirror is always such a wild ride. Can’t wait to see what’s next.”
Another fan, reacting to the news, said: “More Black Mirror than ever is a good sign, I feared they had lost their way a couple seasons ago.”
A third chimed in with: “Charlie Brooker basically saying reality is catching up is savage because let’s be real, every new episode could be a mirror to the chaos we’re already living in. People are gonna binge it and instantly freak out thinking the show predicted their life again and it’s glorious.”
Brooker also revealed that he’s working on another Netflix series, yet to be named, which is entirely separate from the dystopian universe of Black Mirror.
“There’s definitely something I’m not saying about it at the moment just yet. I can’t even tell you what it’s called yet, but it’s very much not Black Mirror,” he disclosed to Tudum.
“I can say that. It’s a very, very different thing. The most detective show of all time. It’s a deeply profound and profoundly serious crime thriller.”
Seasons 1 to 7 of Black Mirror are now streaming on Netflix. A release date for the upcoming season is yet to be announced. For the latest showbiz, TV, movie and streaming news, go to the new **Everything Gossip** website.
