A major probe has been launched after a man’s body was found on a cycle path next to a Scots supermarket.
The 51-year-old was found close to Tesco Extra in Coatbridge on Sunday morning.
Police said they were making “extensive” enquiries into the incident after the alarm was raised at 7.30am.
The man was found unresponsive on the path between Centre Park Drive and Coatbank Street, which runs past the superstore.
Emergency crews attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Police Scotland statement said: “Extensive enquiries are ongoing after the body of a man was found on a path in Coatbridge. His family is aware and being supported by officers.
“The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.
“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal. Officers remain in the area and anyone with any concerns or information can approach them.”
