Liverpool ‘Really Pushing’ for Marc Guehi With Arsenal and Man City Keen
Liverpool and Arsenal may be going head-to-head for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, who remains one of the most sought-after talents in English football. Yet according to Fabrizio Romano, there is also external interest from one of their Premier League rivals.
Guehi has had an exceptional 18 months, making his mark on world football with some masterful performances for England at EURO 2024 before leading Crystal Palace to the FA Cup last season, beating Man City at Wembley.
But, with his contract expiring and a move to Liverpool falling through at the last minute in the summer transfer window, it’s been evident that he could move on. However, Arsenal and the Reds could be rivalled by Manchester City for his signature.
Romano: Marc Guehi Set to Keep ‘Options Open’ Until Contract Expires in Summer
Speaking on his YouTube channel on Sunday, Romano stated that although clubs are going to try to sign Guehi in the January transfer window, it appears as though a summer move is advancing to be the final decision for the England international.
Romano said: “I can tell you that, on Marc Guehi, the real intention of the player has always been to move in the summer on a free transfer.
“With Liverpool really pushing and with Arsenal calling because [Mikel] Arteta is a big fan, these two clubs are insisting.
“Bayern Munich also have some meetings for Guehi, but now Upamecano is expected to sign a new contract.
“Manchester City have been clear. They want to try. They want to make an important proposal, and they want to go strong for Marc Guehi in this January window.
Arsenal in Talks to Sign Premier League ‘Superstar’ Ahead of Potential Bargain Move
It could be a bargain addition for Arsenal.
“So Manchester City will try also next week. If the player decides to accept, Manchester City are prepared to make an agreement with Crystal Palace. They don’t see any problems on that, but it’s on the player.
“His plan has always been to move in the summer on a free, so let’s see what happens. But the Marc Guehi story remains absolutely alive.”
City’s injury crisis may well push them to move for the former Chelsea star, whilst Arsenal are keen on enhancing their defensive ranks – and Liverpool’s summer interest may just push them to get a deal over the line.
Crystal Palace’s Poor Form Will Only Push Marc Guehi Closer to Exit
Guehi’s performances for Crystal Palace in the second half of last season and in the early reaches of this season were undoubtedly enough to tempt him with moves to bigger clubs than the Eagles.
Indeed, the south London outfit had gone 20 games without defeat in all competitions prior to a defeat to Everton in early October, and although they since lost to Arsenal and Manchester United, a strong run of form saw them go fourth in the Premier League in early December.
However, a poor run of form has seen the Eagles fail to win in their last eight matches in all competitions, including a shock 2-1 loss to sixth-tier Macclesfield at the weekend, meaning they’ve plummeted into the bottom half of the table.
Guehi will likely depart for a side in European competition, and with Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City all occupying the top four, that uncertainty surrounding specific league finishes may see him further his stance on a summer move.
