Man Utd Could Look to Appoint Roberto De Zerbi After Amorim

Manchester United are still looking towards securing a permanent solution to their vacant managerial role at Old Trafford – and that has seen one international manager touted for the dugout at the Theatre of Dreams.

The Red Devils drew away at Leeds United in the Premier League last week, though some choice words from Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim following the draw saw him relieved of his duties, sparking a long-term scramble for their new boss.

Whilst interim bosses such as Ole Gunnar Solskjær and Michael Carrick have been touted for the role, with academy coach Darren Fletcher taking the reins this week against Burnley and Brighton, a more permanent solution will be needed.

And that has seen reports tout Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann with the hot seat at Old Trafford, once the 2026 World Cup is completed in the summer.

The report by Football Insider states that United’s director of recruitment, Christopher Vivell, is pushing for Nagelsmann to become the next permanent manager at Old Trafford.

An interim boss will fill in for the remaining five months of the campaign with United pushing for European football, but a permanent solution will be needed to replace Amorim in the summer months.

With that in mind, Vivell is thought to be a big fan of Nagelsmann, and he could become available after the culmination of the World Cup, where he’ll aim to lead Die Mannschaft to their fifth World Cup.

The duo worked together at Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, and they enjoy a strong relationship which could prove pivotal for INEOS to tempt the German boss to the North West.

Despite this, there are other high-profile individuals who make decisions alongside Vivell at United, and their voice could see another boss put forward for the job.

The Timing is Right for Nagelsmann to Join Man Utd

Nagelsmann has repeatedly been linked with the top jobs around Europe after bursting onto the scene as Hoffenheim boss aged just 28.

That saw the ‘genius‘ boss move to European-chasing RB Leipzig and continental powerhouses Bayern Munich, before departing for the German national team.

However, with the 2026 World Cup approaching, there has never been a better time to sway him from international duty and back into the frantic nature of club football once the tournament ends.

Still only 38, Nagelsmann has a bright future ahead of him, having won 40 percent of his games at Hoffenheim, 56 percent of his matches at RB Leipzig and an impressive 71 percent of his games at Bayern – showing a marked improvement the higher up the German pyramid he went.

If United can at least secure European football for next season, he could be vital in the club becoming a consistent Champions League side once again.
