Government data lists the top performing schools in Cambridgeshire based on pupils’ grades at the end of Key Stage 4.
Government data has set out the top performing secondary schools in Cambridgeshire based on the grades achieved by students. Excluding independent schools, Chesterton Community College, in Cambridge, is listed as the top performing school with the highest Attainment 8 score in the county.
The Attainment 8 score is based on how well pupils in a school have performed at the end of Key Stage 4. The score is based on up to eight qualifications, including English, maths, three English Baccalaureate qualifications including sciences, computer science, history, geography and languages, and three other additional approved qualifications.
The government dataset does note that pupils included in the performance data will have experienced some disruption due to Covid-19 earlier in their education, which it said will have “affected individual pupils and schools differently”.
Chesterton Community College has an Attainment 8 score of 68, with 83.7 per cent of pupils receiving a Grade 5 or above in their English and maths GCSEs. Last year the school was rated ‘outstanding’ in all areas following an Ofsted inspection.
The inspection report said pupils “thrive in this warm and inclusive school” and described their behaviour as “impeccable”. It added that the school has an “extremely high level of ambition for all pupils”, which the report said is matched by the pupils’ “own determination to succeed”.
Parkside Community College, in Cambridge, has the second highest Attainment 8 score of 63.4, with 78.1 per cent of pupils gaining a Grade 5 or above in their English and maths GCSEs.
Ofsted has also rated the academy as ‘outstanding’, with an inspection report from 2023 describing the school as a place where “pupils enrich their understanding of a much wider world”. Inspectors said pupil behaviour is “exemplary”, adding that “ambition is at the heart of the school’s curriculum” and that school leaders ensure students learn a broad range of subjects.
St Bede’s Inter-Church School, in Cambridge, had the third highest Attainment 8 score of 61.3, with 73.3 per cent of pupils receiving a Grade 5 or above in English and maths GCSEs. Impington Village College, in Impington, has the fourth highest Attainment 8 score, with a score of 58.5, and 66.1 per cent of students earning a Grade 5 or above in English and maths GCSEs.
The government data table does not include data for every school or college in the county. The Perse School, an independent school, had the overall highest Attainment 8 in Cambridgeshire of 82.2, with 98 per cent of students receiving a Grade 5 or above in English and maths GCSEs.
