Mia Thornton Sued For Unpaid Rent Before Shocking Arrest

A new report unleashing damning information about Thornton’s relationship with her condo property management company in Atlanta, Georgia, reveals the reality star was already on thin ice with them weeks before she was taken into custody. According to a lawsuit filed by Encore Management, Thornton and Jared McGriff were accused of failing to pay rent in September 2025, per Us Weekly.

The lawsuit alleged that Thornton and McGriff rented a unit in Atlanta but failed to pay the $5,100 rent on the three-bedroom residence.

Encore Management requested the past-due rent, plus $6,085 for each month thereafter. The management company also requested $700 in fees.

Weeks after Encore Management filed the above lawsuit, Thornton was arrested at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in November 2025.

Thornton’s arrest came after the property management company alleged the reality star and McGriff “suddenly moved” out of their unit in the middle of the night and took $11,000 worth of furniture and electronics.

Body camera footage was released shortly after Thornton’s arrest was made public, showing the Bravo veteran crying to officers as she admitted to knowing she was wanted.

Another clip shows the 40-year-old asking officers for permission to call an unnamed man to instruct him to return the furniture from storage to its original location.

Throughout the previous season of “RHOP,” Thornton received much praise from the show’s fans regarding her vulnerability.

During her four seasons, Thornton spoke openly about her plastic surgery, previous work as an exotic dancer, and her unconventional relationship with her ex-husband, Gordon.

In a season 9 episode, which aired in 2024, Thornton got candid with one of her castmates about living with Gordon and “financially taking care of him.”

But the drama didn’t stop there for her and Gordon, as she also mentioned he became furious with her over her decision to reconnect with her high-school sweetheart, per The Daily Dish.

Thornton Left The ‘Real Housewives’ After A Dramatic Fourth Season

Thornton wrapped up her time on the long-running reality show in April 2025, sharing her decision with her fans in a dramatic Instagram post.

“With every new season comes a new beginning, and I have some news to share. My family and I have made the decision to relocate to Atlanta, and with that, I will not be returning to The Real Housewives of Potomac next season,” she wrote online.

“The past four seasons have been an unforgettable journey, one filled with growth, lessons, and so many incredible memories. I want to thank Truly Original, Bravo, NBCUniversal, and Andy Cohen for believing in me and giving me the space to share my story,” she added.
