Jason Wilcox Wanted Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Man Utd Over Michael Carrick
Manchester United director Jason Wilcox originally wanted to appoint Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager, but the Red Devils are now closing in on Michael Carrick, according to insider Sully Talkz.
United have been in the market for a new manager after Ruben Amorim was sacked earlier this month. Darren Fletcher was placed in caretaker charge of the Manchester club, but after their FA Cup exit against Brighton at the weekend, talks have ramped up over a new interim boss.
United are preparing for a huge game in the Premier League this weekend as they face their rivals Manchester City. They’ll be hoping to have a new manager in place by then, and in an ideal world, they’ll have multiple training sessions leading up to the game to get their ideas across.
Wilcox Wanted Another Man Utd Manager
According to insider Sully Talkz, Carrick is set to be named as United’s caretaker manager for the remainder of the season. Talks are set to take place to finalise all the details after meeting with Wilcox and Omar Berrada this morning. It’s claimed that Wilcox originally wanted to bring Solskjaer to the club, but it appears that he’s made a U-turn on his decision.
It looks as though Carrick has won the race to be appointed as United’s interim boss, becoming manager of his former club for the first time. Solskjaer has already been in charge at Old Trafford, previously being appointed as caretaker boss before landing the job permanently.
Carrick Putting Himself in Shop Window
Carrick is only likely to be appointed until the end of the season, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a huge opportunity for him. The former Middlesbrough manager can now put himself in the shop window for the summer, proving his ability to manage in the Premier League.
It’s an easy route for him back into management, and there aren’t many jobs bigger than the United one. If he succeeds, there’s a chance he lands the role permanently or gets another move, and if he fails, he can point to the fact that it wasn’t enough time to change things around.
