Danny Dyer reveals his legendary Brit movie is getting a sequel - 25 YEARS after original film

DANNY Dyer has raised hopes he will reprise his role in the classic club culture film that changed his life – by starring in a sequel to 1999’s controversial movie Human Traffic.

The actor said that making a ‘Human Traffic II’ would be great news for the “old ravers out there”.

Danny made his film debut playing dealer Moff in the controversial coming-of-age drama.

It followed five friends as they dealt with their relationships and personal demons during a weekend of partying.

Fans of the original have always hoped for a follow-up.

And Justin Kerrigan, the original’s writer and director, said he spent five years in protracted legal arguments about making one before the attempts floundered a few years ago.

One of the producers, Allan Niblo, said a script was written but it was unsuccessful in securing finance.

But now Danny has said: “Who knows, ladies and gentlemen, for you old ravers out there – and I know you’re out there, you old druggies – there might be a Human Traffic II.

“Yeah, ‘99 it came out, and then it did change my life for the better.

“You know, all of a sudden, I could prove that I could be in a film, and I could prove that I could sort of be a semi-lead role.

And I had the best character in it, the most hedonistic.”

Speaking on his podcast ‘Live And Let Dyers’, Danny said even the first film was mired in problems – forcing him to work on building sites to make ends meet during delays.

He added: “It took two years to come out. The reason it took so long is because it was very controversial. It was a film about hedonism and people taking drugs.

“So while I was waiting for that to come out, I had to go back to the temping agency, and I was a lift operator, pushing buttons in a lift.

“I think I’d mentioned to someone ‘This ain’t really my job, I’ve got a film coming out’. And they laughed in my face – ‘Yeah, course you have, mate’

“How f****** wrong was they?”

The film was to launch Danny into an acting career that has lasted 30 years and seen him star in The Football Factory, EastEnders and most recently Rivals.

Talking about Human Traffic, he added: “I went to a premiere and I was like ‘Wow!’ And it did really well. It did really well.

“People really got it, it really captured that last year of the ‘90s, because the ‘90s is such a mad decade anyway, and it really captured that f****** spirit, that energy.

Danny Dyer has played several film and TV roles across a three-decade acting career.

Here’s a look back at some of his most memorable performances.

  • Prime Suspect (1993): Danny made his screen debut in an episode of the long-running ITV police procedural. He appeared as a character named “Martin Fletcher”.
  • Human Traffic (1999): Danny’s debut film saw him portray “Moff”, a dealer. Directed by Justin Kerrigan, the coming-of-age comedy drama also featured John Simm, Andrew Lincoln and Richard Coyle.
  • Mean Machine (2001): An adaptation of The Longest Yard, this sports comedy also featured Vinnie Jones and Jason Statham. Danny played “Billy the Limpet”.
  • The Football Factory (2004): Loosely based on the novel of the same name by John King. Danny led the cast of this sports drama, directed by Nick Love. He portrayed “Tommy Johnson”.
  • EastEnders (2013-2022): Danny appeared in the London-set BBC soap opera for almost a decade. He played Queen Vic landlord “Mick Carter”, opposite Kellie Bright as his on-screen wife Linda.
  • Rivals (2024): The actor was among an all-star ensemble cast in this Disney+ series based on Jilly Cooper’s novel. Danny played the role of “Freddie Jones”.

“I’m really proud of that film, you know?”

Prior to the film, Danny appeared in the third series of Prime Suspect in 1993, but he said he quickly blew a large chunk of that first pay cheque.

He said: “I got £1,500 for that, and I felt so rich, you know? I bought everyone a kebab.

“I remember that, up Prince Regent’s Lane. I bought myself some Nike Air Max, because I’d always had hand-me-downs.”

Both Hannah and Ryan were unlucky-in-love on the dating show, with their relationships with Stephen and Sionainn collapsing on screen.

However, fans were shocked when it was revealed that Hannah and Ryan had been flirting off-camera and that they may have even shared a kiss.

Then on Wednesday night’s explosive reunion episode the pair looked in good spirits as they waltzed into the dinner party together.

Hannah and Ryan’s co-stars looked on in disbelief, and Sionainn shook her head as her ex arrived with a new girl.

Expert Charlene Douglas questioned: “Are they entering as a couple?”

To which Mel Schilling replied: “Well they’re not holding hands.”

Hannah said they were “just friends” after Kieran questioned what was going on between them.

Elaborating, Hannah went on: “For me he said last time I walked into a room full of people I got verbally attacked.”

Despite entering the reunion with Ryan, MAFS viewers noticed that she was “flirting” with another groom all night – Orson.

But despite fans thinking Hannah and Orson got together after the show, it appears Orson has moved on altogether.

According to a TikTok video he is dating Harriet Southan – the sister of Big Brother star Henry.

As fans may recall, Henry competed in 2023’s ITV revival series and placed third.

Elsewhere on Wednesday night’s episode, Kristina was left in floods of tears over Kieran rejecting her again, after she tells him: “I put my life on the line for you.”

The mechanic’s frosty reply “I just feel numb” left her walking away devastated.

But the biggest showdown of the night came from Polly and Adam after he had a pop at her for talking about him at the table.

He then aired details on their sex life, shouting: “Why are you b******g about someone who doesn’t f*****g want you?

“We had sex three times in 10 weeks!”

In response, she chucked a full glass of red wine over him and his cream dinner suit.

Emilia Perez: Netflix viewers left baffled by new Selena Gomez film

A new musical crime thriller on Netflix starring Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldaña has left viewers completely baffled, with verdicts ranging from “boring” to “movie of the year”.

Emilia Perez was called the most divisive film of the 2024 Cannes Film Festival and arrived on Netflix on 13 November.

The film, directed by Jacques Audiard, stars Karla Sofía Gascón as the titular character, a Mexican drug cartel leader who undergoes gender affirmation surgery to medically transition.

Perez recruits a gritty lawyer played by Saldaña, to help her go through with the process, while her wife, played by Gomez, and children are relocated to Switzerland for their safety.

The ambitious movie currently holds a positive score on Rotten Tomatoes, but judging by social media reactions, it has been wildly alienating.

A particular scene, where Saldana has the process of a sex change operation explained to her through the medium of song, has already gone viral, racking up more than 4 million views at the time of writing.

The person who uploaded it wrote: “THIS IS NOT A REAL MOVIE.” They later added: “I’m 20 minutes in and this was already the second time I had to pause the movie just to laugh because oh my god.”

Another detractor called it “the most boring, generic crime drama you can conceive of, with the occasional demented music number inserted in”.

A third person said: “A horrendously miscalculated medley of poor taste creative decisions in an attempt to seem ‘important’ and ‘empathetic.’”

In a much more positive take, one viewer said: “The film was such a unique blend of comedy, crime, and musical elements that worked together in the most unexpected ways. The themes of identity and transformation were handled beautifully.”

Another person said that although the film was still “bats***” it still “flows with the context of the film. I kinda loved what it was doing and the story it was telling.”

In a review on Out, Mexican trans film critic Mey Rude said: Emilia Pérez isn’t just one of the best trans movies you’ll ever see, it’s one of the most unique and brilliant films of the year.”

The Glow Up Ireland host pulled her glossy brunette locks up into a high ponytail, styling the ends into neat waves.

She accessorised with gold hoop earrings and kept her make-up fresh, adding a dramatic slick of black mascara.

She was joined by a female pal, in an equally striking red lace bodysuit, as they exited a The Corinthia Hotel in London.

Maura appeared in high spirits, flashing a smile as she walked down a huge staircase in her heels before being captured enjoying a giggle in her taxi home.

Recently, she was seen stocking up on vapes before the big trip Down Under.

Maura also lapped up luxuries at Claridge’s hotel prior to her new reality show stint.

She even managed to catch up with love interest Pete Wicks as they stepped out together for a cute date in London.

Fears Maura Higgins will be first to pull out of I’m A Celebrity jungle as former show star claims ‘she’s doing it for the money’

Yet The Sun exclusively revealed former 2009 campmate Kim Woodburn’s fear Maura will be first to pull out.

I’m A Celebrity 2024

As the hit ITV show enters into its 24th series, a brand new batch of famous faces look set to enter the Aussie jungle once again to face terrifying Bushtucker Trials and living amongst the critters in camp in order to come out on top and be crowned King or Queen of the Jungle. The Sun’s Jake Penkethman takes a look at the stars heading Down Under this year…

  • Coleen Rooney – Arguably the most famous name heading into the camp, the leading WAG, known for her marriage to Wayne Rooney, will be making a grand return to TV as she looks to put the Wagatha Christie scandal behind her. The Sun revealed the mum-of-four had bagged an eye-watering deal worth over £1.5million to head into the camp this year making her the highest-paid contestant ever.
  • Tulisa – The popstar and former X Factor judge looks set to be making a triumphant TV comeback by signing up to this year’s I’m A Celeb after shunning TV shows for many years. Known for being a member of the trio, N-Dubz, Tulisa became a household name back in 2011 when she signed on to replace Cheryl on ITV show The X Factor in a multi-million pound deal.
  • Alan Halsall – The actor, known for playing the long-running role of Tyrone Dobbs on ITV soap opera Coronation Street, was originally signed up to head Down Under last year but an operation threw his scheduled appearance off-course. Now he will be hoping to become the latest Corrie star to win over both the viewers and his fellow celebrities when he gets into camp.
  • Melvin Odoom – The Radio DJ has become a regular face on TV screens after rising to fame with presenting roles on Kiss FM, BBC Radio 1 and 4Music. He has already been for a spin on the Strictly dancefloor and co-hosted The Xtra Factor with Rochelle Humes in 2015 but now he is facing up to his biggest challenge yet – the Aussie jungle.
  • GK Barry – The UK’s biggest social media personality, GK, whose real name is Grace Keeling, has transformed her TikTok stardom into a lucrative career. Aside from her popular social media channels, she hosts the weekly podcast, Saving Grace, and regularly appears on ITV talk show, Loose Women. She has even gone on to endorse popular brand such as PrettyLittleThing, KFC and Ann Summers.
  • Dean McCullough – A rising star amongst this year’s bunch of celebs, Dean first achieved notability through his radio appearances on Gaydio and BBC Radio 1. He was chosen to join the BBC station permanently in 2021 and has featured prominently ever since. He has enjoyed a crossover to ITV over the past year thanks to his guest slots on Big Brother spin-off show, Late & Live.
  • Oti Mabuse – The pro dancer has signed up to her latest TV show after making her way through the biggest programmes on the box. She origianlly found fame on Strictly Come Dancing but has since branched out into the world of TV judging with appearances on former BBC show The Greatest Dancer as well as her current role on ITV’s Dancing On Ice.
  • Danny Jones – The McFly star was drafted into the programme last minute as a replacement for Tommy Fury. Danny is the second member of McFly to enter the jungle, after Dougie Poynter won the show in 2011. He is also considered a rising star on ITV as he’s now one of the mentors on their Saturday night talent show, The Voice, along with bandmate Tom. A jungle insider said: “As well as bringing some of the star appeal of the group with him, he’ll be supplying some serious guy candy for the campmates and viewers at home.”
  • Maura Higgins – The Irish TV beauty first found fame on Love Island where she found a brief connection with dancer Curtis Pritchard. Since then, she has competed on Dancing On Ice as well as hosting the Irish version of the beauty contest, Glow Up. Since last year, she has been working on building up her career in the US by being the social media correspondent and host of Aftersun to accompany Love Island USA. She even guest hosted an episode of the spin-off, Love Island Games, in place of Maya Jama last year.
  • Jane Moore – The Loose Women star and The Sun columnist will be braving the creepy crawlies this year. The star is ready for a new challenge – having recently split from her husband. It will be Jane’s first foray into reality TV with the telly favourite having always said no to reality shows in the past.
  • Barry McGuigan – Former pro boxer Barry will become the latest fighting champ to head Down Under following in the footsteps of Tony Bellew and Amir Khan. It comes after a tough few years for Irish star Barry, who lost his daughter Danika to breast cancer. He told The Late Late Show in 2021: “She was such an intrinsic part of the family that every day we ache.”
  • Rev. Richard Coles – Former BBC radio host the Rev Richard Coles is set for I’m A Celebrity — and is ready to let rip at his old employer. The former Communards and Strictly star, 62, said the BBC did not know its a**e from its elbow last year.An insider said: “Rev Coles will have a variety of tales to tell from his wild days as a pop star in the Eighties, through to performing on Strictly and his later life as a man of the cloth.”
  • Kim, 82, also thinks that like many stars who compete on the popular ITV show, Maura’s motivation for entering the jungle is for monetary reasons.

In an interview hosted by WhichBingo.co.uk, she told The Sun: “Maura Higgins is a very beautiful girl.

“I’ve never met the young lady. She’s entertaining. She’s very beautiful. You don’t know anything about her.

“I’d like to think she’ll do trials. She looks delicate. We can never tell you know, you can never tell, good luck to her.”

“And if she’s she’s been paid a lump sum to go in. They all go in for the money, but they deny it,” she added to The Sun.

She added: “But you see the trouble with that is, many of them go in for the money.

“Take the money. She’s dainty and tiny and fragile. Let us see her doing the trials, marvellous. Good luck to her.”

One person who perhaps won’t be voting for her to be jungle queen is her ex Curtis Pritchard.

He raged how his Love Island ex “can’t keep my name out of her mouth” after she addressed their reality show romance on a recent podcast.

The Voice US: Tanner Frick shares cryptic response after leaving Michael Buble in the lurch

The Voice US fans were left blindsided after a contestant suddenly quit the show, leaving a judge in the lurch.

On the latest episode of the singing competition, which airs on network NBC, Canadian singer Michael Bublé, who is a judge on the show, was informed that Tanner Frick had left the show ahead of the knockouts stage.

Presenter Carson Daly told Bublé: “Michael, Tanner left the competition after rehearsals. You still have Cameron [Wright] and Sloane [Simon].”

No reason was given for Frick’s decision to leave the show – and fans have become even more confused after the contestant appeared to reference the news in cryptic message posted on Instagram and TikTok.

The singer shared a video showing him performing one of his songs, captioning the post: “Ain’t nobody want me anyway.”

However, viewers of the show noted the discrepancy in his statement, as Frick had received support from the judges during his appearances on the series.

In his first audition, all four judges – including Snoop Dogg, Gwen Stefani and Reba McEntire – turned their chairs around to signify they wanted to send him through to the next round.

Frick initially opted to go with McEntire, who sent him home in the battle stage of the competition – but Bublé swooped in to save him from being eliminated, telling Daly: “Tanner Frick was a huge win for me. That’s a former four-chair turn and a piece of the puzzle that I didn’t have.”

He said of Frick: “I needed that country singer and now I feel like I’m completely in the game. It’s a brave new world we’re about to head into.”

Another added: “Ugh I hate that you left The Voice. I had you as my top #1 artist! So sad to see you go but I hope everything is OK!”

EastEnders star Timothy West's rock solid marriage lasted 61 years - and wife Prunella Scales revealed their secret

A MASTER of the acting craft, Timothy West played everyone from Shakespeare’s King Lear to Stan on EastEnders.

Yet perhaps his most cherished moments on screen were as himself — pootling in a boat on Channel 4 series Great Canal Journeys with Prunella Scales, his beloved wife of 61 years.

Intelligent and witty Timothy, who died in his sleep on Tuesday aged 90, displayed a devotion to his wife that brought a lump to the throat.

Intended as a travelogue, Great Canal Journeys instead became a reflection on the couple’s decades-long love story — undimmed after Fawlty Towers star Prunella’s dementia diagnosis in 2013.

After a canal ride to Langollen, Denbighs, where they had spent their honeymoon 50 years before, she said: “We just fit, somehow. He never bores me. When he talks, it’s interesting or entertaining.”

Modest and gently spoken, he said: “She can’t remember things very well. But you don’t have to remember things on the canal. You can just enjoy things as they happen — so it’s perfect for her.”

    ‘Incredible talents’

He is survived by Prunella, 92, their two sons — actor-director Samuel and teacher Joseph — and his daughter Juliet from an earlier marriage to actress Jacqueline Boyer.

His children said in a statement yesterday: “After a long and extraordinary life, our darling father Timothy died peacefully in his sleep yesterday evening. Tim was with friends and family at the end.”

Timothy Lancaster West CBE was born in Bradford in 1934 and his actor parents Olive and Lockwood advised him to avoid the theatre at all costs.

But after stints selling office furniture, and as a recording engineer, at age 22 he became an assistant stage manager at the Wimbledon Theatre.

He would soon start acting — for much of the 1950s in provincial theatres before joining the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1962. He later went on to play Macbeth twice and King Lear four times.

He was also a French intelligence agent in 1973 film The Day Of The Jackal and took the title role in BBC TV biopic Churchill And The Generals in 1979.

His versatility saw him play Russian despot Joseph Stalin on stage, and greedy mill owner Bradley Hardacre in Eighties comedy Brass on ITV then Channel 4 — a satire of dour BBC working-class dramas of the previous decade.

He also played Stan Carter on EastEnders, and Coronation Street’s Eric Babbage, love interest of Gloria Price.

With acting in his blood, he continued until the end. Hours after his death was announced, he was seen in BBC soap Doctors, as the neighbour of a patient who fell in their garden.

The BBC show tweeted that it was “a moving reminder of his in- credible talent.”

He met Prunella in 1961. Cast together in BBC play She Died Young, they bonded by doing crosswords and eating Polo mints.

Prunella, later famous as Sybil in Seventies sitcom classic Fawlty Towers, said: “We had a mild, Times-crossword flirtation, and he said, ‘Would you like to come to the pictures?’ I said, ‘Yeah, love to’.”

They kept in touch by post before a fateful date in Oxford. Timothy said: “We went punting, had a meal somewhere and the rest is history.”

The sad thing is you watch the gradual disappearance of the person you knew and loved

    Timothy West

But in 2013, Prunella was diagnosed with vascular dementia, and Timothy cared for her in their home of 50 years in Wandsworth, South West London. The next year, they began their canal series.

Two years later, he said: “The sad thing is you watch the gradual disappearance of the person you knew and loved.

“Perhaps we have been to a concert, play or film and there is not much we can say because Pru will have a fairly hazy memory.

“I should think it is very frustrating for Pru. She is very kind and does not let on. It is frustrating for me, of course. We need each other.”

But they cherished her moments of lucidity, while viewers delighted in their affection and gentle ribbing.

With Pru’s speech and mobility failing, in 2019 they signed off with a tear-jerking trip to Oxford.

He said this year: “I would give anything to have the old Pru back. But the fact she doesn’t have to worry about anything very much is a crumb of comfort.”
