Cadan Murley: Harlequins winger signs new deal with Premiership club

Harlequins vice-captain Cadan Murley has signed a new contract with the Premiership club.

The 25-year-old winger has scored 53 tries in 117 appearances since making his Quins debut in 2018.

He was part of the squad that won the Premiership title in 2021, starting in the 40-38 final victory over Exeter Chiefs at Twickenham, and was the league’s top try scorer in 2022-23 with 15.

Murley missed the start of this season with injury but has played the full 80 minutes in each of the club’s last three Premiership games, scoring his first try in their 36-19 win at Exeter before the league’s November break.

“It’s been a special year so far having led the team out [as captain] at the club I have supported since I was a little boy – every time I step out at The Stoop the fans are unbelievable,” Murley told the Harlequins website., external

“Getting back from injury was a massive moment already this year, and to have three 80 minutes under my belt is great.

“The depth we have throughout the team is something we haven’t had in previous years, so I’m excited to see where it can take us this season and beyond.”

Jake Paul's own sparring partner wants Mike Tyson to WIN fight and reveals why YouTube star 'can't compare'

JAKE PAUL has been hit with a case of friendly fire after one of his own sparring partners backed Mike Tyson to win their fight.

YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul faces heavyweight great Tyson on Friday in a controversial clash slammed over the age difference.

Unbeaten DeAndre Savage was among a number of heavyweights brought into Paul’s camp for sparring ahead of the bout.

But 6-0 Savage has actually thrown his support to Iron Mike – even if he gives him just four minutes to get the job done.

He told SunSport: “Mike Tyson is up in age. I would like to see Mike come and win again because that’s a top two, top three heavyweight ever.

“I would like to see Mike Tyson win but if he don’t knock him out early, Mike’s not gonna win the fight.

“If he don’t knock him out in the first two rounds, Mike ain’t gonna win the fight.”

Despite striking up a relationship with Paul and his camp, Savage will be cheering from Tyson’s corner on fight night.

He said: “Mike Tyson, he’s a big dog in the boxing game, he’s the top dog.

“Jake Paul just started but Jake Paul is one of the greatest marketers in the game.

“Besides Floyd Mayweather – Floyd Mayweather to me is the best marketer in the game. But yeah, Jake Paul is a great marketer, great great promoter.”

Paul is not the only big name Savage has sparred in camp, sharing rounds with Jarrell Miller and Andy Ruiz Jr.

And he admitted 10-1 Paul – who only debuted professionally in 2020 – is not yet at that top level.

Savage said: “He can’t really compare to other heavyweights that I box because Andy Ruiz; punching power is crazy, Big Baby Miller, punching power is crazy.

“So you know, Jake is a good mover. He’s a good boxer but he’s still learning. Jake does a pretty good job, he got a good right hand but he’s still green.

“When I sparred him the first time, I realised that he was still green.”

Savage put the money earned from camps with the likes of Paul to buying his first house.

And he was quick to praise the prankster-gone-prizefighter for his dedication to the sport.

Savage said: “From the outside looking in and listening to everyone else, the world is not taking Jake serious.

“But Jake does work hard and he’s still a little green, so I understand the route that he’s taking.

“Fighting the UFC fighters and stuff like that and people that don’t really know how to box because he’s still green.

“But, Jake sells out the arena, sells the tickets, he’s doing big things that some people wish that they can do, things that people wish they can do and they can’t do it.

“But yeah, Jake worked real hard, work real hard. He got some great moves in the ring.”

England v South Africa: Captain Siya Kolisi returns for Springboks

World champions South Africa have made 12 changes to their starting XV for Saturday’s Autumn Nations Series match with England at Allianz Stadium.

Captain Siya Kolisi and former world player of the year Pieter-Steph du Toit return in the back row, while winger Cheslin Kolbe is also named in the side.

However, despite fielding seven forwards on the bench in the 32-15 win over Scotland, head coach Rassie Erasmus has opted for a conventional five forwards-three backs split among his replacements.

England are set to name their matchday squad at 13:30 GMT.

South Africa beat England 16-15 after a late Handre Pollard penalty in their last meeting in the 2023 World Cup semi-final.

The Boks squad includes 15 players who faced Steve Borthwick’s side in Paris, with Leicester Tigers fly-half Pollard among the replacements.

“England poses a completely different challenge to Scotland, and we selected our squad based on what we would like to do in the match and also what we think will be best to counter the challenge England poses,” said Erasmus.

“Fortunately, we have quite a few players who can switch positions if necessary, so we feel we have adequate depth throughout the team, which allowed us to select this group of replacements.”

England have lost their past four matches, including narrow defeats in their opening two autumn Tests against New Zealand and Australia.

Erasmus, however, says past results count for nothing when the two sides renew their rivalry in London.

“England come off two narrow defeats, but the quality of their performances was good in both matches, so we know the size of the challenge,” he added.

“We lost narrowly to Ireland and France in back-to-back matches in 2022 and a year later were world champions so we know we shouldn’t read anything into the last two results.”

The seven-day lead time at Michelin that made the Barcelona MotoGP finale possible

Published

on

MotoGP tyre supplier Michelin had just seven days to manufacture and dispatch the tyres required for this weekend’s new season finale in Barcelona.

The challenges arising from changing the venue for the title decider have been enormous for all parties involved. One of the key players who had to act quickly after the Valencia GP was cancelled was Michelin.

MotoGP bosses were in continuous dialogue with Michelin during the Malaysian Grand Prix as it finally decided on Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya as the track that will replace Circuit Ricardo Tormo as the final round on 15-17 November following the devastating storms that hit Valencia two weeks ago.

There were several reasons why Barcelona was chosen over other contenders, with logistics being one of the deciding factors. The other options contemplated at that time would have likely required running the finale a week later than scheduled. A second round in Malaysia was also considered but eventually ruled out due to, among other reasons, a lack of availability of essential elements such as tyres and fuel.

The decision to race in Barcelona was taken on the same Sunday at Sepang, and it was the following Monday that Michelin began to manufacture the specific compounds for a race that would be held in very different conditions to the Catalan Grand Prix in May at the same circuit.

The key element will be the temperature in Barcelona, which is much lower in November compared to summers.Weather forecasts indicate a maximum temperature of 16 degree Celsius on both Saturday and Sunday, and it’s possible that the number could drop further if it rains over the weekend.

“The challenge is very important, especially because of the little margin of reaction we had. We made it clear that, to do a race in Europe, we needed seven days to be able to manufacture the compounds. And that’s what we did,” Piero Taramasso, head of Michelin’s racing division, told Motorsport.com.

“On Monday after the Sepang race we started manufacturing them in France and [this] Wednesday they arrived at Montmelo.

“We have a very reactive work system, and the fact that the race is held on a European track has allowed us to gain about three days.”

Michelin has brought a total of seven specification of tyres for Barcelona, four front and three rear, taking both the Spanish circuit and Phillip Island as reference. Under normal conditions, the total number of tyres required would be about 1,000. But by adding one more spec of compound, the figure has risen to 1,400 units.

“At Montmelo we have a track with asphalt that is very old, and, consequently, little grip,” Taramasso added. “To that we have to add the temperature [to the mix], [which is] much lower than when we raced there six months ago.”
