If one thing has always been true, it’s that DC Comics has always had a great time in the animated film realm. While not every one is perfect (the more recent Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths series being the best example), their batting average is much higher than Marvel Comics’ and just generally high as it is. When it comes to the best-of-the-best of DC’s animated flicks, it’s safe to say that they go above and beyond.

Which ones soar the highest, though? If fans really want to know how the rest of the world thinks of DC’s non-live-action ventures, the best place to look isn’t necessarily the likes of review sites like Rotten Tomatoes, but actually the social media platform, Letterboxd. This is a spot on the internet that allows users to review the films they watch, make lists, and see what their friends are watching. This means there’s no spot for critics, and it is a fan/general audience-centric review site. So if one is looking for the most accurate thoughts on what movie viewers think, Letterboxd is the way to go, and that happens to be the case with DC’s animated projects, too.

‘Batman: The Long Halloween, Part Two’ (2021)

If there’s one thing that DC Entertainment loves to do, it’s produce its best or most popular comic book stories in animated film form. One of the most recent cases comes through the Batman: The Long Halloween duology. The story is so long (pun intended) that the studio had to split it into two, and while the first part is good, Batman: The Long Halloween, Part Two is far better. Letterboxd user, alor, agrees: “Slightly better than part one in my opinion but both films were excellent.”

The one and only Jensen Ackles returns to the DC animated realm in this one, but not as his most iconic role, Red Hood, but, surprisingly, the Caped Crusader, and he actually does exceptionally well. He does so well, in fact, that people genuinely seem to want him to play the character in James Gunn‘s live-action DCU. It’s clear that the finale of this duology had a positive impact on most viewers. It’s not the best thing since sliced bread, but still a very good flick.

‘Watchmen: Chapter II’ (2024)

While the brand has always been popular in the comic book realm, movie audiences became very well aware of the team that is the Watchmen when Watchmen, directed by Zack Snyder, was released many years ago, which is considered one of his best movies. The Watchmen (1986) comic story is lengthy, though, so come the 2020s, DC decided they were going to retell the story in — much like Batman: The Long Halloween — a duology.

While the two movies aren’t nearly as popular as the previous live-action installment, people generally liked these two movies, with the favorite being the second chapter, Watchmen: Chapter II. It’s still not a perfect adaptation, though, with André stating, “No adaptation of one of the greatest literary works of all time would do justice to the source material, of course. That said, these two chapters do a pretty decent job.” So, while not perfect, it still does a relatively good job of being a fun watch and pleasing comic book fans.

‘Teen Titans: Trouble in Tokyo’ (2006)

Ask literally any comic book fan, and they’ll tell you that one of the greatest animated superhero series ever made is the legendary Teen Titans. It’s so beloved that fans were, and still are, incredibly depressed that it came to an end. At least, however, it has a good finale in the form of a feature film titled Teen Titans: Trouble in Tokyo. Fred will prelude what makes it great in their review, “‘Trouble in Tokyo’ is vibrantly animated in the show’s classic style and beautifully extends the spirit of the ‘Titans’ stories that so many of us loved and continue to hold in fond regard.”

This project has everything that made Teen Titans so good: wonderful vocal performances, stellar animation, phenomenal storytelling, and overall strong direction from directors Michael Chang, Heather A. Maxwell, and Matt Youngberg. So, despite people being understandably sad that the show was ending, they, at the very least, got a strong finale, which is more than other DC and Marvel animated shows can say (R.I.P. The Spectacular Spider-Man).

‘Justice League Dark: Apokolips War’ (2020)

When it came to providing a finale to the old DC Animated Film Universe, the teams at Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment decided to deliver fans the likes of Justice League Dark: Apokolips War. Boy, did they decide to go out with a bang. This project is incredibly well-written, albeit a bit too dark for the sake of being dark, at times. Yes, this is supposed to be a dark story to wrap things up and make the conflict feel hopeless, but nattheratking puts it best when they say, “Raven saying ‘oh for f**** sake’ was funnier than it should’ve been

I feel like a lot of the dark imagery was just for shock value (ie Starfire literally bisected on the ground) and didn’t really have an emotional impact beyond that”.

Despite these failings, though, Justice League Dark: Apokolips War still provides a satisfying ending for this animated universe — one that spanned a long seven years, starting in 2013. It puts the DC heroes to the test in a way that they have never been before. Characters are either brutally murdered or, like Superman (Jerry O’Connell), turned into hollow shells of themselves for the main characters to save. It begs the question: “What if Darkseid (Tony Todd (rest in peace)) won?” and does so very well.

‘Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1’ (2012)

The Dark Knight Returns (1986) is one of the most well-known and positively hailed DC Comics storylines ever written. Brought to life by the legendary Frank Miller, this story really shook the boat when it was released for the unique direction it took with the Batman character, bringing the story far into the future where he’s a very old man and makes his comeback as the Caped Crusader for the first time in many years. This is explained pretty well by Marcos in his review of the film, “His return is framed as a cry for help from Gotham itself, born from Bruce’s need to don the mask once more, unable to overcome the trauma of his parents’ death.”

The story, without a doubt, deserves a two-part film story. DC Entertainment clearly was well aware of how important this story is to people and made sure they took the time and care to make this story a phenomenal film series — that much is clear from the first entry: Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1. It’s astoundingly animated, contains near-perfect performances (how has Peter Weller only played The Dark Knight here?), and tells the comic plot with grace, setting up for an even better second part.

‘Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker’ (2000)

Much like Teen Titans, Batman Beyond is commonly known as one of the best superhero shows of all time that would get a finale in the form of a movie — this one is an unofficial one, though, never confirmed as a finale. Also, like fans of Teen Titans, fans of this incredible Batman series were treated incredibly well when Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker in 2000.

There is so much to love about this movie, keeping the charm of the original series while also managing to tie it back to Batman: The Animated Series, almost acting as a pseudo-finale for that, too (which is a bit of a reach, but it really does tie up some character arcs effectively). Mr. Beyond himself, Terry McGinnis (Will Friedle), is at his best here. The proof of the quality can be found in the three reviews made by Emil: “this film (and the batman beyond tv show) is incredibly underrated, hot take but this is probably my favorite animated DC film”, “one of the best batman movies idc“, and “secretly the best batman movie“. Sensing a pattern?

‘Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox’ (2013)

When it comes to Justice League movies, it doesn’t get much better than 2013’s Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox (sorry, Zack Snyder). Even though it has “Justice League” in the title, this doesn’t mean that it loses itself in too many protagonists— no, the film still focuses primarily on Barry Allen (Justin Chambers), The Flash, which, in the opinion of many, is a good way to handle a team film. “Despite the large ensemble, the film manages to stay focused on Barry Allen’s emotional journey, grounding its multiverse chaos in genuine character drama,” is how SamGunn2006 describes this aspect of the movie.

Many people also agree that this is one of the best adaptations of a DC Comics story into an animated form, managing to coherently turn this giant crossover event into an hour and 15-minute film. This isn’t easy to do, and other animated adaptations can act as proof of that (cough, cough, Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths, cough, cough). It narrows it down, but keeps the heart and soul that made the comic so special in the first place, keeping it compelling the whole way through.

‘Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2’ (2013)

As stated, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1 is a very good movie and well-made adaptation of the original comic book, but they really needed to stick the landing with Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2. Everyone was incredibly pleased to see that they absolutely did, and brought the final half of the story to life with grace.

This movie features the legendary battle between Batman and Superman (Mark Valley), with Batman clad in his armored suit, bringing some iconic imagery to the screen that the major motion picture, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, would take inspiration from. Letterboxd user, leozinbreckado, boldly claims that this movie is far better than the first in their review: “Holy s***, part two managed to be even better,” (translated from Spanish).

‘Batman: Mask of the Phantasm’ (1993)

Often considered the best Batman movie ever made, Batman: Mask of the Phantasm‘s popularity remains strong to this very day — a whopping 33 years later. It has the massive advantage of being part of the Batman: The Animated Series franchise, which is already extremely praised. This also means it has the stellar voice cast the show had, bringing in Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill, who are known for being some of the greats.

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm is legendary and beyond memorable. It acts as a great character study of both Batman and Bruce Wayne, via the villain, The Phantasm’s (Stacy Keach) history and motives. This is a huge part of what makes this movie so impactful for the character and so beloved to this day. Patrick Willems puts it perfectly when he said, “Warner Bros: Hey can you rush out a cheap cartoon Batman movie for kids? The filmmakers: Sure. Also we’re gonna make it a tragedy about two adults whose reactions to trauma cost them their happiness, and it’s going to have more elegant dialogue and character work and denser storytelling than any live-action Batman movie.”

‘Batman: Under the Red Hood’ (2010)

While Jensen Ackles may play Batman in the Batman: The Long Halloween duology, he got his start in the DC animated realm with the astounding movie, Batman: Under the Red Hood. Bringing the “Under the Red Hood” storyline from the comics to life, the film brings the source material writer himself, Jeff Winick, back to write the movie, which makes the screenplay of this movie a borderline perfect adaptation. It’s genuinely incredible.

The voice cast, also consisting of Bruce Greenwood, John DiMaggio, and Neil Patrick Harris, does wonderful work bringing these characters to life and, especially in the final confrontation, has phenomenal dynamics with each other. There’s a reason that Batman: Under the Red Hood is hailed as one of the best Batman movies. Jason Todd’s story specifically makes the movie beyond compelling, with irisoftheeye stating, “They can never make me hate you Jason Todd”.

Award-winning actress Halle Berry has graced movie screens for three decades, earning multiple accolades from industry awards organizations. She won Best Actress at the 2002 Academy Awards, but as she’s sharing now, the notable recognition did not really change her career.

The 59-year-old actress reflects on why she feels that way and what it has meant for her acting career.

Halle Berry Is ‘Wildly Proud’ Of Her Oscar, But It Didn’t Change Her Career

Berry sat down for an interview with The Cut, where she talked about her recent project, her romantic life, and her career. The conversation touched on her Oscar win in 2002, where she won the award for Best Actress for her role in the movie “Monster’s Ball.”

Berry was the first Black actress to win the Best Actress award at the Oscars since its inception in 1929, and no Black actress has won since. According to her, she assumed the coveted award would change her career’s trajectory, but that didn’t happen.

As she told the publication, “I thought there was going to be, like, a script truck showing up outside my front door. While I was wildly proud of it, I was still Black that next morning.”

She explained that directors still had discussions about casting Black actors in lead roles and questioning what that would do to the story. “Then it’s a Black movie. Black movies don’t sell overseas,” the actress said.

Her Moving Oscars Speech

At the 74th Academy Awards in 2002, Berry was up against Judi Dench, Nicole Kidman, Sissy Spacek, and Reneé Zellweger for the Best Actress award. When she was announced as the winner, she was visibly surprised and shaken.

In her speech, she dedicated her win to some notable Black women in the industry, adding, “It’s for every nameless, faceless woman of color that now has a chance because this door tonight has been opened.”

In an interview with Variety in 2020, however, she said winning the award was one of her “biggest heartbreaks.” The “Gothika” actress now questions whether her win was really an essential moment for Black women or just for her, referring to the fact that no other Black women have won the award since.

“I was just continuing to forge a way out of no way,” she added. As she shared with The Cut, she told Cynthia Erivo, who had been nominated three times for an Oscar, that she deserved to win, “but I don’t know that it’s going to change your life.”

Halle Berry’s Reflections Were Shared In A Documentary

Last year, the documentary “Number One on the Call Sheet” was released on Apple TV+. In it, Berry looked back at what happened after her win, per The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s forced me to ask myself, did it matter? Did it really change anything for women of color? For my sisters? For our journey?”

As she shared in the documentary, she thought there was a big chance for a Black actress to win at the 2021 Oscars, with both Andra Day and Viola Davis nominated for Best Actress. Still, the award ultimately went to Frances McDormand. “For equally different and beautiful reasons, they both deserved it, and I thought for sure,” Berry said.

“The system is not really designed for us, and so we have to stop coveting that which is not for us,” Berry explained, adding that what’s more critical is touching the lives of people through art.

She Also Won A Golden Raspberry Award

The Academy Awards may celebrate the best, but the Golden Raspberry Awards, also called the Razzies, highlight the worst. The latter was founded as a parody of the Oscars, with the first ceremony held in 1981.

While Berry has won an Oscar, she has also won a Razzie. There are only a few celebrities who personally accept their Razzie award, and Berry was one of them. In 2005, she received her Worst Actress award for her portrayal of Patience Phillips, aka Catwoman, in the movie “Catwoman.”

“First of all, I want to thank Warner Bros. Thank you for putting me in a piece of sh-t, God-awful movie,” she told the laughing crowd. She then called out her manager for convincing her to do “sh-t” projects.

There’s a stunning twist in the kidnapping of ‘TODAY’ anchor Savannah Guthrie‘s mother Nancy … her son-in-law might be the prime suspect, according to Ashleigh Banfield.

Banfield — the former host of Banfield on NewsNation — reported Tuesday night … Tommaso Cioni has been identified by police as the possible suspect in the case, citing a trusted law enforcement source.

The veteran journalist says Cioni is married to Savannah’s sister Annie — and the two were the last people to see Nancy on Saturday night. Annie reportedly had dinner with Nancy that night … but it’s unclear if Cioni was also present.

As you know, Nancy’s family called police Sunday after they got word she didn’t show up to her regular Sunday church service.

Now, Banfield says investigators have towed Annie’s car, which has “some connection” to 50-year-old Cioni. Banfield adds that all the cameras at Nancy’s Tucson, Arizona home were smashed in.

Earlier Tuesday, NewsNation published a video showing a trail of blood leading to the front steps of Nancy’s house. The Los Angeles Times also reports that blood was found at the crime scene, which belonged to Nancy.

TMZ was sent an alleged ransom note from an unknown person or persons who demanded payment in exchange for Nancy’s release. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI are investigating whether the note is authentic.

Police say Nancy was kidnapped from her home in the middle of the night over the weekend. Investigators are working fast to find Nancy … believing time is of the essence. She’s 84, in poor health, and without her daily medication.

Duane “Dog the Bounty Hunter” Chapman’s stepson Gregory Zecca is facing life behind bars if convicted of aggravated manslaughter after fatally shooting his teenage son.

Florida’s Collier County Sheriff’s Office posted an update on the July 2025 incident via Facebook on Tuesday, February 3, stating that Zecca accidentally shot his child, Anthony, 13, in the family’s Naples, Florida, apartment while allegedly under the influence of alcohol. Local Southwest Florida news outlet WINK News was first to report on the update.

Per the Sheriff’s Office, Zecca, 39, was taken into custody “on a warrant for aggravated manslaughter of a child with a firearm and using a firearm while under the influence,” which could result in a life sentence.

A Collier County police investigation into Zecca, who is the son of Dog’s wife, Francie Chapman, from a previous marriage, found that Zecca allegedly “consumed alcohol over several hours at a local establishment, purchased more alcohol, and later used both alcohol and marijuana at a friend’s residence.”

Zecca and his son were “watching a UFC fight on TV at the time.”

Law enforcement also reported that Zecca “repeatedly handled a firearm in his son’s presence, practicing drawing it from his waistband and dry-firing.” The firearm had “initially been made safe by removing the magazine and clearing a live round from the chamber.”

Further detail stated that the magazine was put back into the firearm before Zecca “discharged a single shot” that struck Anthony.

Sheriff Kevin Rambosk stated in the update that the event “was a heartbreaking and preventable tragedy.”

Rambosk added, “Our detectives conducted an exhaustive and thorough investigation, examining every element of what happened through witness statements, forensic testing, subpoenas, search warrants, and more.”

Police officials also noted that deputies who arrived at the scene “detected the odor of alcohol on Zecca and observed marijuana in plain view.”

A subsequent toxicology report estimated Zecca’s “blood-alcohol concentration to be approximately 0.116 at the time of the shooting, above Florida’s legal limit of 0.08.”

Zecca was placed on a psychiatric hold following the shooting. A family representative told TMZ one day after the incident occurred that Zecca was “under observation on a 5150 hold,” which meant that he had been involuntarily detained for 72 hours after being deemed “a danger to themselves, to others, or gravely disabled,” per Clear Behavior Health.

The rep also told the outlet at the time that the hold was instigated because Zecca was “overcome with grief” and not because he felt guilty of a crime.

Dog released a statement via the outlet in the shooting’s aftermath. “We are grieving as a family over this incomprehensible tragic accident and would ask for continued prayers as we grieve the loss of our beloved grandson, Anthony,” Dog and Francie both wrote at the time.

Zecca also disabled his Instagram account after the incident. Prior to the account’s disappearance, Zecca had posted photos of himself with Anthony, including one image that showed the pair at a shooting range.

During a Tuesday, February 2, teaser clip for the following day’s episode of Travis, 36, and older brother Jason Kelce’s podcast, “New Heights,” the Chiefs tight end fell back in his chair, landing with an audible crash on the ground.

A red-faced Travis, who had been enthusiastically laughing at a comment made by Jason, 38, regarding the trotting out of “best in show” dogs, joked after his fall, “Taylor’s going to kill me.”

As both brothers cracked up over the mishap, and Travis regained balance on his chair, Jason laughed even harder at his younger brother’s candid comment regarding Swift, 36.

A caption that accompanied the teaser clip, shared via X, that read, “Warning: This week’s episode is dangerously funny. Tomorrow. Super Bowl preview with two special guests.”

Travis’ light-hearted comment comes just two weeks after he joked that the pop star would “kill” him for yet another reason. While sharing fan reactions to a fresh “New Heights” merch drop, a listener commented, “I can’t believe none of the new hoodies are called ‘New Heights of Man-Hoodie,’” which drew blank expressions from Travis and Jason.

When the duo’s intern reminded them that the comment was a reference to Swift’s “The Life of a Showgirl,” as “New Heights” is name-dropped on the album’s “Wood,” Travis offered a tongue-in-cheek response.

“I didn’t understand that,’ he said. “Taylor’s gonna kill me for not knowing that.”

According to an article published by local news outlet Kansas City Star after the game, which saw the Raiders win 14-12, third-string quarterback Chris Oladokun extended his hand out to Travis in the locker room. “Man, thank you,” Oladokun, 28, reportedly said to him.

Additionally, the outlet reported that linebacker Cole Christiansen also said to Travis: “Whatever happens, it’s been an honor playing with you.”

Travis said on the January 7 episode of “New Heights” that he’s looking forward to “being a regular human” once he’s done playing football. “Every season ends for me, I just put my feet up and I be a human, because I’ve been putting my body through the wringer for the love of it,” he told Jason during the show.

He continued, “I do enjoy playing football and the physical aspect of it, I think there’s something about feeling the wear and tear of the football season, just getting ready for a game knowing your body’s f***ing beat down. According to Page Six, Netflix staff in Los Angeles have been enjoying products from Meghan’s lifestyle brand, As Ever.

Two storage rooms at the streamer’s Hollywood campus reportedly hold jars of jam, candles, wine, and Meghan’s signature flower petal sprinkles, and staff are said to be taking the products home freely.

“Apparently, there are two storage rooms packed with As ever product. They’re literally just giving it away to employees,” a source told the news outlet. “One (staffer) walked out with 10 products for free.”

Despite the giveaways, most of As Ever’s inventory was moved to a separate warehouse long ago. What remains at Netflix is primarily for promotional purposes, including gifting and sampling.

The presence of the products at the offices stems from Meghan’s partnership with Netflix, which helped launch the lifestyle range after she abandoned the original name, American Riviera Orchard, due to a trademark dispute.

The products were tied to her Netflix series, “With Love, Meghan,” which will not return for a third season after ratings dropped.

Reddit users discovered a glitch allowing them to calculate maximum stock levels by adding large quantities of products to their carts, but sources close to Meghan say the brand is preparing for international expansion, not struggling.

A source told People Magazinethat “the glitch that led to this data being revealed points to a business that isn’t just successful — it’s flying, literally off the shelf.”

“It’s not returning as a series. There have been conversations about holiday specials, but there’s nothing in the works yet,” a source told Page Six.

A second insider stated that the Duchess of Sussex will instead focus on her lifestyle brand As Ever, while another noted that “people will see similar cooking and crafting” on her social media pages, but they will be “more bite-sized.”

Speaking to People about the lifestyle series, a source confirmed at there are “currently no plans for a third season.”
