New Starbucks, Greggs and Spar open at A690 Rainton services
The development has been built just off the A690 in Rainton near Houghton-le-Spring, and opened for the first time on Thursday (December 15).
This comes after plans were first submitted to Sunderland City Council in early 2024, with proposals promising up to 45 jobs.
Now open, the drive-thru is the first Starbucks location between Durham and Sunderland following the closure of their Dalton Park location in March 2024.
Pictures now show the service station fully open and busy – with a number of drivers stopping by to take advantage of the new site.
On social media, Starbucks managers previously confirmed the opening date of the store, promising giveaways for the first customers.
They wrote: “Our team has worked extremely hard to bring you the best experience. Join us from 8:45 for our launch event and be one of the first three customers to get one month of free coffee!
“Plus, goodie bags for the first 50, discount cards, free drinks, live music, special guests, and local charities.”
