The Asics Gel Nimbus 28 is the comfiest running shoe I’ve ever worn
What is the Asics Gel Nimbus 28?
The Asics Gel Nimbus 28 is the freshest iteration of the Asic’s Gel Nimbus range. The Asics Gel Nimbus 27 won the Best Buy award in our running shoes for women round-up in 2025 so, as a keen runner, I had high hopes for the 28s
Asics is renowned for producing high quality, reliable trainers, plus these come with a pretty steep £180 price tag. Intended for road running, these trainers have a stand-out cushioned midsole, premium sockliner and a high grip rubber sole, essential in wet or icy weather.
Crucially, Asics shoes are specifically designed for women’s feet, a rarity in the world of running trainers where most of the shoes available are scaled-down men’s models.
Can the 28s live up to their predecessor? I put my running headphones in, pulled on my running vest and running socks and took these Gel Nimbus trainers out for a test run.
JUMP TO:
I tested the Asics Gel Nimbus 28 against five key metrics: comfort, stability, bounce, ground feel and durability.
To assess comfort, I paid close attention to how my feet felt during and after runs, how much support the trainers offered, the level of cushioning and how the shoes fitted overall. Pinching and rubbing are commonplace with new running trainers, so I was keen to see whether the 28s required a period of ‘breaking in’ or whether they felt comfortable straight out of the box.
To examine stability, I judged whether my foot was stable on impact or if it felt as though it was caving in slightly. During each run, I kept tabs on my foot placement and landing.
To test bounce, I focused on responsiveness and if my feet felt light or heavy with each stride.
Ground feel was measured on tarmac and mixed terrain at my local park, avoiding the soft surface of a treadmill. I wanted to see whether the trainers struck a balance between protection and connection with the ground.
Durability was the final testing metric. Some trainers show signs of wear quite quickly, so after each run I checked the shoes for scuffs, marks and any general breakdown. I checked the toe box too, to ensure the material wasn’t wearing thin.
Between runs, the trainers were stored in their box to keep them dry.
