Prince William has received praise from Donald Trump for “doing a fantastic job” after they met following the historic reopening of the Notre Dame on Saturday night.

The Prince of Wales, 42, shared a warm handshake with the US President elect when they met at the residence of the British ambassador in Paris yesterday.


Trump, who had his first meeting with a member of the Royal Family since his election victory in November, hailed the future King a “good man” before he turned to reporters and said: “Wow, what a nice group.”

During their 40-minute meeting, the President elect shared found memories of the late Queen and discussed a range of global issues with the Prince of Wales.

The pair focused on the importance of the relationship between the UK and the US, Kensington Palace revealed.

The royal rescheduled his meeting with the Republican and current First Lady, Jill Biden, following travel disruption caused by Storm Darragh.

Instead of their originally planned private chat, the First Lady and William were going to have talk on the sidelines of the ceremony, Kensington Palace previously said.

Prince William and Trump went upstairs to begin their discussions in the Salon Jaune room.

William said: “We can warm our toes up after the cathedral.”

Trump replied: “Right, you’re right”.

The meeting between the US President-elect and the Prince of Wales concluded last night at around 9:20pm UK time.

The momentous ceremony, marking the cathedral’s revival after the devastating 2019 fire, brought together world leaders in the French capital.

President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte greeted Prince William in the rain as he arrived in Paris.

The ceremonial reopening of Notre Dame featured several significant rituals marking the cathedral’s return.

The historic event included the symbolic opening of the cathedral’s massive doors and the reawakening of its thunderous organ.
