Three Horse Shoes near Lanchester confirms plans amid sale
The Three Horse Shoes in Maiden Law, near Lanchester, took to social media on Thursday to issue an update to customers.
It came after reports that the pub had been put up for sale after a RightMove listing earlier in the week showed it was being marketed for just under £400,000.
In a post on the venue’s Facebook page, a statement said: “This pub is up for sale.
“However, this does not affect the business; this will be run as normal until December 2027 at least.
“We have decided that bigger and better things can be achieved, and we have a few things in the pipeline. So watch this space.”
The pub, which is open Tuesdays to Sundays from 12pm, has planning permission attached to it, which would allow for an extension to be built, but the current owners have no plans to close the business.
Nestled on a road going into County Durham village Lanchester, Maiden Law is a small village, but that has not stopped The Three Horse Shoes from amassing support online, with a 4.6/5 rating on Google Reviews and 4.9/5 rating on Facebook.
Residents reacted to the news with shock and expressed their support to the current owners.
Claire Louise Storey said: “Absolutely gutted. We have had the best family parties with amazing memories made and made some lovely friends.
“I will certainly be making the most of the time it’s still open.”
Paul Thompson said: “I’m excited to see what’s next for this place, you’ve had a great run and I’m sure whatever happens next will be amazing.”
And Chris Davies said: “So sad to read this.”
