Tip from a beginner in case you want a server cabinet: you can buy them mostly in 600mm deep and 800mm deep. You might end up buying a 600mm deep server cabinet and then realize most servers are more than 600mm (23.5 inch) deep. I have been there. Or actually I am still there… I might end up putting a desktop computer into a 2U rack chassis.

this randomly came up but i have a tower server that been rebuilt and upgraded but i didnt pay for the server as i rescued it from one of them big roller dumpsters that was placed at the side of a closed down family video its a single cpu Dell PE t320 thats been tricked out….it was one of the things that helped keep my sanity during when things where shutdown in 2020…its more like a workstation with what i put into it than a server but it is a server i back up my laptop and its also my media server

@diyinfosec Greatest video. Any recommendations on buying a rack server in india, just for homelab with like 44 cores or more dual cpu etc..no raid, storage required. All i'm finding these refurbish stuff vendors are asking for crazy money 10 times of what Ebay US has for anything.

please suggest me something with your experience.

You don't want to buy any server hardware at all, it's meant to be installed in an ice boxed chilled server room, and if it's not, the fans run at emergency flat out high speed and it's noisy as phwck

Learn more about Home Lab and Servers, and how you can start your own tech projects! This is the first time I’ve put a lot of time and effort into building a Server Rack for my Homelab! I talk about the different components and devices I’ve put into it. Doesn’t need to be a big server rack though, just start with a single server, like I did. #ServerRack #HomeServer #HomeLab

Why you should or shouldn't buy used servers!

Bob Pellerin (CTOBOB) looks into what to look for in a used server. Reliable machine can be had. Keep in mind that the more recent a server is, the most likely it will run newer operating systems.

The parts most likely to fail on serves are:
– Drives
– Power supplies
– Fans
