Dubai cuts road traffic fatality rate by 36.8% in Q4 2025

Dubai recorded a 36.8 per cent reduction in the road traffic fatality rate per 100,000 residents during the fourth quarter of 2025, compared with the same period in 2024, highlighting continued improvements in road safety outcomes across the emirate.

The decline reflects the efficiency of Dubai’s traffic system and the impact of proactive safety plans designed to protect road users and raise overall safety standards, particularly as population levels and visitor numbers continue to grow.

Figures released by the General Department of Traffic showed further positive trends. Pedestrian fatalities fell by 50 per cent, while collision-related deaths declined by 44 per cent during the same period, underlining progress across multiple categories of serious road incidents.

The results were reviewed during a Q4 2025 performance evaluation meeting chaired by Major General Hareb Al Shamsi, Deputy Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Sector Affairs. Senior officers attended the meeting, where strategic performance indicators, accident data, traffic violations, enforcement technologies and high-risk locations were analysed in the context of population growth.

Major General Al Shamsi stressed that the improved results were driven by integrated efforts and advanced smart systems, particularly those used to monitor driver behaviour, alongside intensified traffic patrols and inspection checkpoints.

These measures have directly contributed to improved driver discipline and a reduction in dangerous practices on Dubai’s roads.

He also highlighted the importance of continuously upgrading technical systems and maintaining sustained awareness campaigns to educate the public about traffic risks, especially those linked to bicycles, motorcycles and electric scooters.

Such initiatives, he noted, help prevent unsafe behaviour and reduce accident rates.

The meeting underscored the need for innovative and sustainable solutions to ongoing traffic challenges, as well as stronger internal coordination between the General Department of Traffic and police stations. This approach supports more effective decision-making, faster responses on major roads and safer travel in a city that welcomes millions of visitors each year.

Dubai Police renewed its call for motorists to strictly adhere to traffic laws, emphasising that enforcement measures are designed to regulate behaviour, protect lives and promote a culture of responsibility on the roads.

Dubai Police also warned against serious violations classified among the most dangerous offences, confirming that firm legal action will be taken against offenders to safeguard public safety and the wider community.
