Leeds considering January move for Troy Parrott
Leeds have sounded out a move for AZ Alkmaar and Republic of Ireland striker Troy Parrott, sources close to the player have told Football FanCast.
The 23 year-old, who scored a memorable hat-trick to keep his country’s hopes of World Cup qualification alive, was linked with a move to Elland Road in the summer and again in December, having scored nine goals in 13 Eredivisie appearances this season.
He is thought to be extremely happy in the Netherlands, but would eventually like to test himself in the Premier League, and Leeds have made contact over a possible deal this month.
The young striker has drawn praise aplenty thanks to his international exploits in recent months, but has also impressed at club level, wowing Shelbourne defenders when the Irish club played against AZ in the UEFA Conference League in November.
“He has the best movement that I have ever played against. He’s unbelievable. Unbelievable player,” said defender Paddy Barrett. “He’s probably the hottest thing at the minute in European football. He’s flying and it’s great for us as a country. Hopefully he can continue to do what he’s doing.
“I said that to him. You have to give credit where it’s due. He’s been doing great for the country. “Obviously I’m happy he didn’t score but if he can continue to do what he has been doing for our country then great. He’s a top, top striker. The world is his oyster if he keeps doing what he’s doing. The sky is the limit.”
Reports suggest AZ would reluctantly cash in for a fee of around triple what they paid to bring him to the club from Tottenham, which was £6.7 million.
