Celtic are in advanced talks to sign Borussia Monchengladbach striker Tomas Cvancara in January, according to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.

The Hoops have been desperate to add more firepower to their squad this month after Martin O’Neill arrived for a second spell in charge this season, following the departures of both Brendan Rodgers and his replacement Wilfried Nancy earlier in the campaign.

Attacking depth and fresh legs have been a priority for the Glasgow giants as they look to get back in the title race, where they are currently six points behind league leaders Hearts, and it now seems that they are closing in on their man.

Cvancara, 25, has been free to leave the Bundesliga club all month and was recently given leave by the club to finalise a transfer away. It has now emerged that the club closest to sealing his signature is Celtic.

Plettenberg reports that personal terms have already been agreed between the club and player, and it is now just the final details between the clubs that is left to seal the deal. Celtic are set to sign Cvancara on an initial loan deal until the end of the season, with an option to make the deal permanent in the summer.

Cvancara is capable of playing on the right wing and as a central striker, but he has struggled for regular game time in recent campaigns and will be looking to hit the ground running at Parkhead playing as a number nine.

Celtic Finally Get Their Man

Kelechi Iheanacho

The attacking options for Celtic this season simply haven’t performed the way may expected them to, and a new striker is the absolute bare minimum that the board needed to deliver for the manager this month.

Kelechi Iheanacho and Johnny Kenny have failed to nail down a starting place, which has seen Daizen Maeda play as a striker, but he is at his best on the wing, and the arrival of the 6ft 3 forward will allow him to move back to his preferred role and help the team be better.

It’s the perfect timing to get a deal over the line, and they’re bringing in a player who has a point to prove. This could be a match made in heaven for all parties.
