Tottenham boss Thomas Frank was able to breathe a huge sigh of relief as their 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund eased the pressure and scrutiny he is facing

Thomas Frank believes Tottenham’s “magic” Champions League should be enough to keep him in a job. And the under-pressure Spurs boss promised to toast a much-needed win with two glasses of red wine as Tottenham are now on course for the knock-out stages.

Cristian Romero and fit-again Dominic Solanke were on target against ten-man Borussia Dortmund and a win at Eintracht Frankfurt next week will be enough to guarantee their place in the top eight and avoid a play-off.

When asked how he would celebrate, Frank said: “Two big glasses of red will be necessary.”

Frank has spent the week fighting for his job and the Tottenham hierarchy were out in force at the stadium as the Dane insisted that the win will give him something to build on.

Frank said: “I think it’s about the team and everything, but I understand the question. What I feel the whole time, I feel the staff is with us, the players are with us, the owners, all want the same thing, on same page and lot of things in right direction.

“Big performance and big win but very aware need to keep this consistency and build on this. I see a team running very hard and that’s a healthy sign of a culture we’re building something step by step.

“One of the special European nights, felt energy was quite unique. That was nice.”

Frank was jeered after Saturday’s defeat to West Ham but the fans were fully behind the team and that will give the manager renewed hope of turning things around.

He added: “It was an important win to get, especially at home. The performance and the win – now can we build on it? We asked the fans to help us and it was special, it was extremely nice to experience it and the energy between the fans and the players was magic.

“The players have given me everything which is an extremely good sign for the coach. Dom gave everything and it was very good to have him on the pitch.

“We must build on this performance and result against Burnley on Saturday. We must keep believing. We must do everything we can to finish top eight. It means two games less.”
