Thomas Llewellyn from Tonypandy subjected the woman to considerable violence and abuse

A judge called a man’s actions “utterly reprehensible” after he shared private sexual images of a woman “far and wide” by posting them to his public Snapchat story. Cardiff Crown Court heard how Thomas Llewellyn, 30, also heard how in one message he sent to his victim, he threatened to burn her alive.

Sali Harmes, prosecuting, told the court that Llewellyn had developed a drug and alcohol problem and that he had used “considerable violence” towards his victim, including punching and strangling her.

The court heard how he deliberately covered her mouth and nose, triggering a panic attack in the woman. Don’t miss a court report by signing up to our crime newsletter here.

Llewellyn also held up a knife to his victim and said: “You don’t want to know the thoughts I have,” the court was told.

Ms Harmes also said he left a “large volume” of abusive messages and voicemails on his victim’s phone.

In one message he called her a “fat, useless slob” and “f***ing disgusting”. It continued: “If I could rip out your throat I would.”

The court heard how the victim felt degraded by the messages and once had to ring in sick to work because she couldn’t stop crying.

Another time, Llewellyn shared nude photographs of her on his public Snapchat story. In March 2023 he was arrested.

David Pinnell, representing Llewellyn, said time had moved on “considerably” since his client’s offending, saying he had matured since.

Mr Pinnell also said Llewellyn was no longer dependant on any intoxicants.

Llewellyn, of Holyrood Terrace, Llwynpia, Tonypandy, has one previous conviction for an unrelated offence. He pleaded guilty to sharing private sexual images at the first opportunity and to harassing his victim and placing her in fear of violence on the day of trial.

During sentencing, Judge Vanessa Francis said: “You were abusive to her in a multitude of different ways.”

She went on to add: “You then shared private sexual images of her far and wide, it was the most utterly reprehensible thing to do.”

Judge Francis sentenced Llewellyn to three years in prison. She said she had “thought carefully” about reducing it further due to what has happened since the offending, but had decided the offending had gone on for too long for his sentence to be suspended.

Llewellyn will serve up to half of the sentence in custody.
