Harry Kane double given Bayern victory while Qarabag leave it late

There was plenty of goals and plenty of drama across Europe on Wednesday.

Wednesday night saw nine matches in the Champions League as the group phase reaches the business end.

It was a good evening for Premier League sides, with wins for Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle, while LaLiga leaders Barcelona came from behind to pick up all three points.

Here is how the rest of the action unfolded.

Bayern Munich 2-0 Union Saint-Gilloise

A Harry Kane double all but confirmed Bayern Munich’s passage to the next round after the Bundesliga champions ran out 2-0 winners despite going down to 10 men in the second half.

Kane scored both goals – the second from the penalty spot – in a three-minute spell after the break before Kim Min-Jae was sent off for a second bookable offence just after the hour mark.

However, Vincent Kompany’s side saw out the game to restore the three-point gap behind league leaders Arsenal.

Qarabag 3-2 Eintracht Frankfurt

Qarabag’s hopes of securing a play-off place were given a boost after a 3-2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt.

Bahlul Mustafazada netted a 94th-minute winner for the hosts at the end of a dramatic game in Azerbaijan.

Camilo Duran opened the scoring for Qarabag after four minutes but Frankfurt levelled just over five minutes later courtesy of Can Uzun.

Fares Chaibi gave the visitors the advantage with a spot-kick in the 78th minute before Duran equalised two minutes later.

Just when it looked like the points would be shared, Mustafazada found the net with virtually the last kick of the game to send the home support into raptures.

For Frankfurt, who were playing their first game since the dismissal of manager Dino Toppmoller, their hopes of qualification were dashed.

Galatasaray 1-1 Atletico Madrid

Galatasaray and Atletico Madrid played out a 1-1 draw in Turkey with both teams’ hopes for qualification to the next phase still intact.

Giuliano Simeone broke the deadlock after just four minutes for the visitors but the hosts hit back to score what would prove to be the final goal of the match on 20 minutes courtesy of a Marcos Llorente own goal.

Two goals in four minutes from Nico Serrano and Robert Navarro gave the LaLiga side breathing space before Atalanta’s Nikola Krstovic made it a nervy last few minutes.

Juventus 2-0 Benfica

Juventus gave their top-eight hopes a significant boost with a 2-0 win over Benfica at the Allianz Stadium.
