Leeds targeting “magic” Premier League star

Leeds United can’t count their chickens just yet, but it is looking good for Daniel Farke‘s men as they battle against Premier League relegation.

Off the back of securing a 1-0 win over Fulham last time out, the Whites have only tasted defeat in the often unforgiving division once across their last nine league encounters.

Subsequently, a sizeable seven-point gap has opened up between themselves and West Ham United, stuck in 18th spot, with the Whites only six points shy of 11th position, as well.

With Facundo Buonanotte already in through the door this January, too, it’s clear that Farke and Co. will be active leading up to February’s deadline, as the Leeds ship tries not to go off course.

Leeds remain interested in Premier League star

Buonanotte, free from his Chelsea loan, will hope he can play a big role in ensuring his new side comfortably secures survival, with the 21-year-old just warming the substitutes bench against the Cottagers.

Farke will be craving more squad depth, with the likes of Jorgen Strand Larsen on Leeds’ agenda, so they don’t over-rely on the goalscoring prowess of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, with the Whites showing ‘significant interest’ in the Norwegian.

But, moving past this January, Leeds have now received a boost in their pursuit of Fulham ace Harry Wilson.

As per talkSPORT, Wilson is looking very unlikely to put pen to paper on an extended contract at Craven Cottage, meaning he will become a free agent at the close of the season.

This has alerted Everton, Sunderland, Crystal Palace, and – of course – Farke’s men to the potential of a stunning free transfer deal, with Leeds long-standing admirers of the dazzling Welshman.

While this will require patience on Leeds’ end, and would likely be dependent on them officially confirming their Premier League status for next season, this sticks out as being an even better deal than snapping up Strand Larsen, who comes in at an eye-watering £40m valuation.

Why Wilson would be a better signing than Strand Larsen

At one point during his fluctuating Wolves career, Strand Larsen was even being tipped to move to Newcastle United for a lavish £60m.

The Old Gold number nine was subject to such audacious bids this summer, off the back of powering home 14 goals last season, but he has looked a shadow of his former self throughout the majority of the current campaign, as Wolves sit at the very bottom of the league.

TalkSPORT pundit Darren Bent has accused the Norwegian of “doing absolutely nothing” up top this season, when regularly being marshalled out of contests, leading to the 25-year-old only being able to boast a measly one goal from 20 Premier League outings.

Safe to say, dropping £40m on the dithering attacker would be an almighty risk.

On the contrary, landing Wilson on a free transfer would be an outrageously good deal, with the Wrexham-born forward noted as being “the form player” in the Premier League right now, by Sky Sports’ Dougie Critchley.

It’s hard to disagree with that statement when looking at his form this season by month, with Wilson suddenly turning into a red-hot force in front of goal during the cold winter months, with a sublime seven goals and four assists next to his name in the Premier League this campaign.

While Strand Larsen tends to go missing, Wilson always seems to be ready to pop up with something special, with Marco Silva noting that everything he touches “becomes something magic”, when deep in his scintillating December run of form.

In the long run, Wilson could become a devastating star at Elland Road who enables Leeds to consolidate as a Premier League club, with the Welshman up to 26 goals and 18 assists in the elite division, all across his glittering career.

Whereas Strand Larsen entering the building would be a short-term gamble that might not pay off, as he tries to get back up to speed when bursting out of his Molineux malaise.
