Wrexham now “readying” serious offer to sign Yan Valery ahead of Rangers
Wrexham are now reportedly “readying” a serious offer to sign a former Premier League defender ahead of Scottish giants Rangers.
Wrexham submit record offer to sign Cherif
Wrexham have been threatening to steal the headlines all week and may yet do so in the most sensational fashion following reports that they’ve submitted a record-breaking offer to sign Sidiki Cherif from Angers this month.
The offer, worth around £19m with add-ons would obliterate Wrexham’s transfer record and potentially hijack Crystal Palace’s initial move to sign the forward. It would be a serious statement to the rest of the sides competing for a play-off place in the Championship.
It would be the biggest deal of Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds’ reign and that should come as no shock, given that the Welsh side currently sit just two points away from the top six.
As for Cherif, himself, he has quite the decision to make. In terms of what he could add to Wrexham, the forward isn’t necessarily the finished product.
With four goals in 18 league games this season in France, it’s clear that the 19-year-old is one who will only get better in years to come, rather than making his full impact from the off.
Off the pitch, his arrival would arguably make a greater impact. This would be Wrexham spending like a Premier League side before they’ve even entered the top flight. It shows the hand that those from Hollywood are playing with and that should only spark excitement in Wales.
What’s more, Cherif might not be the last arrival of the window, amid reports that the Red Dragons are also interested in a former Premier League defender.
Wrexham “readying” Yan Valery offer
As reported by Alex Miller of The Star, Wrexham are now “readying” a serious offer to sign Yan Valery from Sheffield Wednesday. The Owls desperately need to raise funds whilst in administration and could sanction the sale of the former Southampton defender as a result.
Whether it’s Wrexham who win the race is the big question. Alongside them, Rangers are also chasing Valery as Danny Rohl looks to form a reunion with his former full-back.
If Wrexham are looking for experience, then the 26-year-old is certainly the right man for the job. He’s a full international with Tunisia and has featured in both the Premier League and the Championship.
With all that experience, the defender is now also at the peak of his powers at 26 and that’s exactly what Wrexham need if they are to set their sights on the Premier League.
Alongside the younger Cherif, a deal to sign the former Southampton man would represent very solid business from Reynolds and McElhenney.
