West Ham United are in a fight for survival this season.

That might sound hyperbolic, but with the Hammers 18th in the Premier League and still five points from safety, it’s really not.

Nevertheless, there is still enough time for Nuno Espírito Santo’s side to get themselves out of trouble, particularly if they can match the intensity displayed in their recent performance against Tottenham Hotspur.

Moreover, the club are doing all they can to improve the squad, and it looks like they might have just identified their next Jarrod Bowen.

West Ham target their new Bowen

While they should have done more in the summer, West Ham are at least trying to make the most of this transfer window this month.

The East Londoners have seriously bolstered their centre-forward options with former Lazio ace Taty Castellanos and former Gil Vicente star Pablo Felipe.

Moreover, with links to the likes of Axel Disasi, Eric Dier, and Charlie Cresswell, the board are also clearly desperate to strengthen the backline.

However, in another exciting development, the club appear keen on adding even more firepower to the frontline in the shape of someone who could be their next Bowen.

At least that is according to a recent report from Sports Boom, which claims West Ham are interested in Brandon Thomas-Asante.

The report states that, alongside fellow relegation candidates, the Hammers are ‘pursuing’ the Coventry City star and ‘working hard behind the scenes to try and get a deal done.’

However, it might not be all that simple, with the Sky Blues reportedly demanding a “huge, mouth-watering bid” to tempt them into selling.

Thomas-Asante

It could, therefore, be a costly and complicated transfer to get done, but even so, it’s one West Ham should be all over, as Thomas-Asante could be their new Bowen.

Why Thomas-Asante would be West Ham’s new Bowen

Now, before the pitchforks and torches come out, as things stand, Brandon Thomas-Asante is not on the same level as Bowen.

Jarrod Bowen goals per season (timeless)

After all, the West Ham star is one of the best attackers in the Premier League, and so few players are.

However, there was a point in his career when plenty of people wouldn’t have thought much of the Englishman, and there are some similarities between him and the Coventry star.

The most notable one is that, like the former Hull City star, he is making a name for himself by being one of the most dangerous attackers in the Championship.

For example, in his final half-season in the second tier, the Hammers’ captain scored 16 goals and provided six assists in 29 appearances, totalling 2610 minutes.

That comes out to an incredible average of a goal involvement every 1.31 games, or every 118.63 minutes.

Now, for his efforts this season, the “remarkable” Ghanaian, as dubbed by manager Frank Lampard, has scored ten goals and provided four assists in just 19 league appearances, totalling 1295 minutes.

In other words, the 27-year-old machine is averaging a goal involvement every 1.35 games, or more impressively, every 92.5 minutes.

In addition to clearly being a huge goal threat, the former West Bromwich Albion gem is also positionally versatile.

Across his career to date, he has played in right and left midfield, up top, as a second striker, on both wings, and even in attacking midfield.

Ultimately, while it could prove an incredibly difficult deal to get done, West Ham should be going all out to sign Thomas-Asante this month. Not only could he help them avoid relegation, but he could also become their new Bowen.
