Six men have been arrested after a man was shot in the leg during an early-morning incident in Manchester city centre.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said officers were called to Richmond Street, near the city’s Gay Village, at around 5am on Saturday, January 24, following reports of a disturbance.
On arrival, officers found an adult male with a leg injury consistent with a gunshot wound. He was taken to hospital, where his injuries were described as non-life threatening and non-life changing.
Six men, aged between 23 and 26, were arrested on suspicion of affray and firearms offences and remain in police custody as investigations continue, the Manchester Evening News reported.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “Six men have been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences after a firearms discharge in the city centre.
“Officers were called to Richmond Street at around 5am this morning (Saturday 24 January 2026) to reports of a disturbance. Upon arriving at the address, officer locate an adult male with an injury to a leg which is consistent with a gunshot wound.
“They have been taken to hospital with injuries that have been described as non-life threatening and non-life changing. Six men aged between 23 and 26 years have all been arrested on suspicion of affray and firearms offences and remain in police custody for questioning. Investigations are ongoing.”
Superintendent Stephen Wiggins of GMP’s City of Manchester division said: “This will undoubtedly be a concerning incident for anyone living or working in the city centre and across Greater Manchester. Our officers acted swiftly, detaining six individuals we believe were involved, and a firearm has been recovered from the address.
“Since 2023, our Serious Crime Division has removed 168 firearms from our streets, showing how seriously we take gun crime. We believe this was a targeted incident and there is no wider threat to the public.”
Armed officers remain on the scene this morning, with some apartments on Richmond Street being searched, according to our reporter at the scene.
Residents are advised to avoid the area while enquiries continue.
