A Saks Stylist for Boston’s Wealthy Is Accused of a $400,000 Returns Scam
He called himself the Fashion Whisperer of Boston and for years outfitted socialites and the wives of Red Sox players as a stylist at the city’s Saks Fifth Avenue store.
Now, Suhail Kwatra is accused of stealing more than $400,000 from the luxury retailer—mostly by processing fraudulent returns on items his wealthy clients ordered but never picked up. The fraud and larceny charges against him are an embarrassment for Saks, one of the last remaining luxury department stores, which has been struggling with financial issues.
The 43-year-old Kwatra, who denies the allegations, said he trusts that the legal process will ultimately show that the accusations are an effort by Saks to retaliate against him for considering employment elsewhere.
“I have always strived to adhere to company policies and provide the very best service to my clients,” he said in a statement.
