Abu Dhabi launches smart indoor air quality observatory
The Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC) has launched the Indoor Air Quality Observatory, known as HawAQM, marking a major step forward in monitoring indoor air pollutants and protecting public health across the emirate.
The observatory leverages advanced scientific technologies and high-precision sensors to provide real-time data and in-depth analytics on indoor air quality in a wide range of environments, including schools and residential homes. The initiative is one of the flagship projects under ADPHC’s broader public health strategy.
HawAQM relies on sophisticated monitoring devices installed at selected locations to continuously track key indoor air pollutants. Data is transmitted in real time and displayed through a dedicated HawAQM dashboard, enabling specialists and decision-makers to assess conditions quickly and take timely, preventive action to ensure safe and healthy indoor spaces.
Tracking indoor air for healthier living
The initiative is designed to raise awareness of indoor air quality while strengthening oversight across buildings and facilities in Abu Dhabi, supporting healthier living environments and improved quality of life for residents.
Dr Rashid Al Suwaidi, Director General of ADPHC, said: “Abu Dhabi continues its pioneering efforts to protect community health and improve quality of life. The Indoor Air Quality Observatory – HawAQM is a strategic tool that strengthens the emirate’s capabilities in smart monitoring of health risks, safeguarding public health, and supporting future planning based on accurate, data-driven insights.”
He added: “Our commitment to innovation and the adoption of cutting-edge technologies reflects our dedication to creating healthy and safe indoor environments for current and future generations, contributing to improved public health and the achievement of sustainable development.”
