Abu Dhabi Police warn public over rising online fraud using fake ads and misleading links
Abu Dhabi Police have issued a warning to the public to exercise caution when dealing with online advertisements, citing a rise in electronic fraud carried out through misleading links.
The alert comes amid increased use of fake online ads designed to steal personal and financial information.
Abu Dhabi Police said unknown entities are exploiting search engines, as well as employment and real estate platforms, to circulate fraudulent links that appear legitimate but are intended to compromise users’ data.
Police warned that scammers are promoting advertisements offering unusually low prices to lure victims into entering credit card details and other sensitive information.
These ads often direct users to websites that closely resemble legitimate platforms, making the fraud harder to detect.
Abu Dhabi Police urged users to rely only on officially approved applications when making purchases or requesting services online, and to verify the authenticity of electronic links before entering any personal or financial information.
