All smiles for My Implant Dentist
My Implant Dentist is the realisation of Kent Tan’s mission to make high-quality dental implant treatment more affordable and accessible.
Mr Tan founded the business in Perth in 2019, and My Implant Dentist has since grown to operate seven clinics across Western Australia, including one in Karratha.
Elsewhere across the country, the now 100-strong team operates two clinics in Brisbane and one in Melbourne.
At the core of My Implant Dentist is its model to combine surgical, prosthodontic and lab functions in one place: its in-house dental laboratory.
Establishing the lab and upskilling staff were necessary pivots when Covid disrupted the business’s supply chains and staffing pipelines, according to Mr Tan.
The company decided to reduce its reliance on overseas workers and shifted to offering clinical mentorships and graduate recruitment.
After Covid, My Implant Dentist’s biggest challenge was to adapt to technological advancements that included artificial intelligence.
My Implant Dentist adopted AI, intraoral scanning, photogrammetry, and 3D printing, which have led to fewer clinical errors, shorter delivery times and lower costs.
However, Mr Tan didn’t shy away from acknowledging there were some pitfalls as the business grew.
My Implant Dentist initially underestimated the complexity of scaling its clinical operations across multiple sites, and strained its systems, leadership and onboarding during its early expansion.
The business has taken the missteps in its stride, implementing a formalised operating structure, creating training pathways and investing in experienced leadership.
The investments made after learning these lessons have led to My Implant Dentist providing more than 1,000 dental implants a year.
Looking forward, My Implant Dentist has set sights to open two more Western Australian clinics in WA and another in Queensland in 2026.
