Sonic, the Solana Virtual Machine chain for games and applications on Solana, will unveil its native token SONIC on January 7.
On Dec. 31, the Sonic team said the layer-2 chain’s token generation event on Solana (SOL) will have 57% of the token’s total supply allocated to the community. The distribution will include SONIC reserved for the ecosystem, initial claims and Sonic HyperGrid rewards.
The TGE announcement comes just a few days after the Solana L2 gaming platform said it planned to airdrop its native tokens to TikTok users. SONIC will power the game-centric blockchain and its multi-Solana Virtual Machine ecosystem.
Sonic will have a total supply of 2.4 billion tokens, with 15% set to enter circulation during the TGE.
According to the L2 project, the snapshot for the initial SONIC claim was completed on December 31, 2024. This opens up an airdrop of 7% of total supply for the initial claim, with the community able to access the eligibility checker on January 3.
SONIC token’s launch is part of the Solana project’s phase 1 roadmap. Phase 2 includes the mainnet alpha, Sonic X Android and iOS apps support and token bridge integration. The project will also target HyperGrid optimistic rollups and Sonic Grid v2 release in 2025.
As for the token, the team plans to announce listing across centralized exchanges and Solana-based decentralized exchanges via its socials.
