Universal Credit: DWP shake-up payments next week

Estimated read time 3 min read

The Department for Work & Pensions (DWP) has confirmed Universal Credit payments due on Wednesday, January 1, will be paid one day earlier on Tuesday, December 31.

The change comes as benefits are not typically paid out on bank holidays, with the DWP moving payment dates to ensure claimants receive their money.

Most benefit recipients whose usual payment dates fall on January 1 and 2 will see their payments arrive on December 31 instead.

However, Universal Credit claimants due to be paid on January 2 will still receive their payment on that date as normal.

The early payments are designed to ensure households aren’t kept waiting for their money over the new year period and have funds available to pay bills.

“As well as bringing forward benefit payments to continue support over Christmas, our Household Support Fund can also provide extra help,” Timms added.
