Recent devastating floods have affected Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Malaysia, resulting in over 1,000 deaths. Both Sri Lanka and Indonesia have deployed military forces to assist victims. The disasters caused widespread destruction, with Sri Lanka experiencing its worst crisis since the 2004 tsunami and Indonesia facing its deadliest event since 2018.

The floods have displaced thousands of families, leaving many without access to clean water, food, or shelter. Emergency response teams and humanitarian organizations are working tirelessly to provide relief, but the scale of the disaster has overwhelmed local resources. In Thailand and Malaysia, authorities have issued warnings about potential landslides and further flooding as heavy rains persist. Millions have been impacted by a combination of tropical cyclones and heavy monsoon rains, resulting in devastating floods that have claimed at least 502 lives in Indonesia, 355 in Sri Lanka, and 170 in Thailand, while Malaysia has reported three fatalities.

The losses and damages are the most devastating in Sri Lanka since the 2004 tsunami, which claimed around 31,000 lives and displaced over a million people. For Indonesia, it marks the deadliest disaster since the 2018 earthquake and subsequent tsunami in Sulawesi, which resulted in more than 2,000 fatalities.
