Dubai is cracking down on truck-parking violations with hefty fines and inspection campaigns.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched an extensive inspection campaign targeting improper practices by truck drivers, with a specific focus on random parking on main roads across the emirate.

The initiative is part of RTA’s continued efforts to enhance road safety, protect infrastructure, and maintain the city’s urban environment while ensuring smoother and safer traffic flow.

The intensified inspections are being deployed across several key areas, including locations beneath bridges and on major corridors where violations frequently occur.

RTA said the campaign forms a core component of its broader strategy to reduce practices that obstruct traffic, endanger road users, and affect mobility efficiency across Dubai’s road network.

Arif Shakri, Director of Right-of-Way at the RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, stated: “The inspection campaigns undertaken by RTA aim primarily to regulate activities within the right-of-way, protect public facilities and infrastructure, and safeguard the road from unauthorised practices.

“RTA will continue to carry out these campaigns on a regular basis, alongside unannounced inspections, to identify violations and take action against those encroaching obstructing the right-of-way across the emirate.

“RTA continues to raise awareness among cargo companies and heavy-vehicle drivers about the risks associated with random parking and the importance of using designated truck parking areas”.

He added: “RTA has developed 14 dedicated truck rest stops across the emirate to ensure greater comfort for drivers, particularly during truck-movement restriction periods on certain roads.

“These facilities support efforts to reduce truck-related incidents and curb unsafe practices that jeopardise the safety of road users.”

Shakri further emphasised the importance of compliance: “RTA urges freight companies and truck drivers to comply with all regulatory and operational requirements, as random truck parking within the right-of-way or on main roads constitutes a clear violation.

“Penalties start at AED 5,000 ($1,361) and may be doubled in repeated or serious cases, reaching up to AED 200,000 ($54,480) depending on the nature of the violation and its impact on safety and traffic flow, in line with Executive Council Resolution No. (54) of 2021 regulating works within the right-of-way in the Emirate of Dubai.”

Dubai’s dedicated truck rest areas play a key role in supporting the campaign’s objectives. These facilities include prayer rooms, diesel refuelling stations, retail outlets, restaurants, truck-maintenance workshops and designated rest zones for drivers.

Strategically located across highways and major roads, they are designed to improve the wellbeing of drivers, support transport companies and enhance the overall on-road experience in line with international best practice.
