Dubai joins Global Resilient Cities Network

Dubai has formally joined the Global Resilient Cities Network, a move that officials say reinforces the emirate’s position as a global leader in crisis preparedness, risk management and sustainable urban development.

H.H. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Supreme Committee of Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management, said the membership represents “a new strategic milestone” for Dubai. He added that the decision highlights the city’s advanced capabilities in anticipating risks, adapting to evolving challenges and developing resilient urban systems.

Sheikh Mansoor said the accession supports ongoing efforts to enhance disaster readiness, safeguard uninterrupted development and strengthen long-term planning. “Dubai’s membership in the Resilient Cities Network reflects Dubai’s emergence as a leading city in risk management and urban resilience,” he said.

Ahmad Atiq Bourqibah, Executive Manager of the Dubai Resilience Centre, said joining the network will allow Dubai to exchange expertise with global peers and adopt best practices in urban resilience. He said the collaboration will accelerate the development of forward-looking policies, support smart technology initiatives and enhance service continuity under all conditions.

Officials said the partnership will also create new opportunities for joint innovation and international cooperation on resilience projects, helping local institutions build frameworks capable of dealing with rapid global change. Bourqibah added that Dubai aims not only to prepare for crises but to “turn challenges into opportunities” by building an integrated, highly adaptable urban system.

Dubai is the first GCC city to join the network. The emirate said it intends to take an active role within the global platform and contribute its own experience to support cities working to build future-ready resilience strategies.
