Dubai launches national campaign to counter AI-driven economic fraud

Dubai has launched a national awareness campaign to address the growing threat of economic fraud driven by artificial intelligence and digital technologies. The initiative, led by the Economic Security Centre of Dubai, operates under the slogan “Strong Economy… An Aware Society”.

The campaign is designed to equip individuals, businesses and institutions with practical knowledge and tools to identify and respond to evolving forms of economic fraud. It places public awareness at the centre of efforts to protect the UAE’s economic environment as fraudulent techniques become more advanced.

AI fraud campaign launches in Dubai

According to the centre, the rise of artificial intelligence, deepfake technology and online deception has made fraud more difficult to detect, increasing risks for both consumers and organisations. The campaign highlights a range of practices currently targeting the public, including misleading commercial advertising, deepfake manipulation, online marketplace scams, phishing attacks via email and SMS, fake investment schemes promising unrealistic returns and manipulation in cryptocurrency and financial markets.

The initiative also addresses risks linked to fraudulent business partnerships and the theft of bank card information through deceptive digital links.

Faisal bin Sulaitin, Chief Executive Officer of the Economic Security Centre of Dubai, stressed the need for collective vigilance, saying, “Economic fraud is no longer traditional or predictable; it has become highly sophisticated, constantly evolving, and capable of exploiting the latest technologies to deceive even the most cautious individuals and organisations.”

He added, “At the Economic Security Centre of Dubai, we stand firmly at the forefront of this battle, with a strong resolve to protect our society by equipping every citizen, resident, and business with the knowledge, tools, and confidence they need to confront these emerging challenges. We firmly believe that economic protection is a shared national responsibility. Staying aware, informed, and united as a society is vital to ensuring our economy remains strong and sustainable.”

The centre has encouraged members of the public to take part in the campaign by sharing awareness messages and experiences using the hashtags #StayAware and #TogetherWeProtectOurEconomy.

Officials say the initiative supports Dubai’s broader efforts to maintain confidence in its business environment and reinforce its position as a secure and future-focused financial hub through education, transparency and community engagement.
