Earnings Season Wraps, Investors Look To A Holiday-Shortened Week With Few Market Drivers

U.S. stocks opened higher on Friday, with investors preparing for potential volatility on a major contract expiration day. Friday marks the final quadruple witching day of the year. Contracts tied to stock options, stock index futures, stock index options, and single stock futures will expire. Wall Street ended higher on Thursday, as traders cheered Micron Technology’s guidance and a significantly softer-than-expected consumer inflation report.
As the year comes to a close, with holidays around the corner, investors will be paying close attention to economic reports due to be announced next week. These include the Chicago Fed national activity report on Monday; Core Durable Goods Orders, GDP Sales, the Richmond Manufacturing Index, and New Home Sales on Tuesday, with MBA Mortgage Applications, Continuing Jobless Claims, and Durable Goods Orders releasing on Wednesday. The Baker Hughes Oil Rig Count will be released on Friday.
