Egypt, Georgia and UK top winter travel list for UAE residents

UAE residents are gearing up for one of the busiest travel seasons of the year, with Egypt, Georgia, Morocco and the United Kingdom emerging as the most popular winter destinations, according to new research by global visa platform Atlys.

The company’s data highlights two distinct travel trends for December and January: short regional breaks and longer European holidays. Egypt continues to rank among the top choices, offering historic attractions and year-round sunshine along the Red Sea.

Georgia remains a preferred option for a quick winter getaway, with Tbilisi’s old town and nearby mountain resorts such as Gudauri drawing visitors from the UAE. Morocco also features prominently, combining cooler weather with diverse landscapes from Marrakech’s markets to the Atlas Mountains.

For travellers planning extended holidays, the UK remains a leading choice for those seeking a traditional European winter experience, with London’s festive shopping and Edinburgh’s seasonal celebrations proving major draws.

The Schengen Zone also attracts strong interest, giving access to 27 European countries, including France, Italy, Switzerland and Austria on a single visa.

“The UAE’s population represents one of the world’s most diverse communities, and travel aspirations are equally varied,” said Mohak Nahta, Founder and CEO of Atlys. “Winter is a meaningful season when people seek connection, exploration and celebration.”

With nearly 80 per cent of the UAE’s population made up of expatriates, Atlys said visa complexity remains a key factor influencing travel decisions.
