Markets Fall as Risk Rally Fades. Stock Futures Sliding.
Stocks looked set to edge lower on Tuesday, as investors tried to figure out if geopolitical concerns tied to the raid on Venezuela would lead to the risk-on rally losing some steam.
Futures tracking the Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 96 points, or 0.2%. S&P 500 futures were down 0.1%, as were contracts tied to the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100.
The Dow kicked off the first full trading week of 2026 by surging to a record high, as Wall Street shrugged off the U.S. capturing Venezuela President Nicolás Maduro. Tensions in Latin America may well upend the global order–but they haven’t undermined the bull case for stocks. Investors are still betting on lower interest rates, a solid economy, and an artificial-intelligence boom that could boost corporate profits.
