The company is poised to move into the top floor of the prime office building Wellbar
National law firm Thompsons Solicitors is on the move into new city centre offices. The company, which specialises in personal injury and employment rights, has operated in Newcastle for 45 years and is now planning to relocate to the top floor of the Wellbar building.
The owners of the building have carried out a two-year, multimillion-pound programme of improvements at the building, including upgrades for the ground floor reception, lift lobbies, WCs, and shower facilities, as well as a number of office spaces. The works at the offices, which are already home to Kennedy’s Law, Careline Lifestyles, Turnitin and Sky, have also boosted the building’s environmental credentials following a rise in demand for ‘best in class’ workspace.
The investment includes the installation of new heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. Tony Hood, operations director at Thompsons Solicitors, said the company was “delighted” with the Wellbar site.
“With our long-standing presence in Newcastle since the opening of our first office in 1980, we are thrilled to relocate in the heart of the city, where we’re delighted by the facilities and excellent transport links offered by Wellbar,” he said.
“It was the standout location from our property search, and the light and views offered from the ninth floor are particularly attractive.”
Meanwhile, accountancy firm KPMG UK has cemented its presence in the North East until at least September 2030 after renewing its lease at Quayside House in Newcastle. The company has served the North East for more than 150 years.
The firm is also investing in significant improvements to its Newcastle office as part of the renewal to create a more modern and collaborative working environment, as well as enhanced audiovisual and acoustic facilities in client-facing meeting rooms.
Michael Downes, Newcastle Office Senior Partner at KPMG UK, said: “The North East is home to some of the UK’s most innovative and resilient businesses and KPMG has been proudly supporting them for over a century. This lease renewal demonstrates our unwavering commitment to the region, supporting the business community in driving economic success.
“Our clients play a vital role in the regional economy and this investment in our Newcastle office reflects our focus on delivering on-the-ground support. The upgraded workspace will encourage collaboration and ensure we are best placed to support the region’s ambitions in the years ahead.”
Michael O’Driscoll, Commercial Property Investment Director of Northumberland Estates added: “We’re pleased that KPMG UK has chosen to extend its long-standing presence at Quayside House for a further five years. Their significant investment in upgrading their workspace demonstrates real confidence in both the building and Newcastle’s position as a thriving business centre. We look forward to continuing our partnership and supporting their work in the North East.”
