Oman to grant visa-free entry to Philippine citizens from 2026

Oman will exempt Philippine citizens from tourist visa requirements starting next year, in a decision that officials say reflects strengthening bilateral relations and the Sultanate’s wider strategy to expand global partnerships and attract more visitors.

A spokesperson for the Consular Department at the Foreign Ministry confirmed that the Philippines will be added to the visa exemption list in 2026. The measure increases the total number of visa-exempt countries to 105 and supports efforts to position Oman as an accessible and appealing international destination.

According to diplomatic sources, the decision forms part of a broader shift in relations between Muscat and Manila. The two sides are moving beyond cooperation focused mainly on labour to pursue wider opportunities in investment, industry and higher value tourism.

The sources said concerns about easing travel requirements are limited due to the strict pre-departure measures imposed by the Philippine authorities. These include proof of health fitness, financial solvency, flight and hotel bookings and other documentation that helps ensure travellers comply with regulations.

Omani officials also view these measures positively and consider them consistent with the country’s own approach to managing entry for visitors, residents and workers of various nationalities.

The Oman Visa and Medical Check-up Centre in Manila, which opened in July in the presence of Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi and Minister of Labour Dr Mahad bin Said Ba’owain, has already strengthened cooperation on labour oversight.

The facility provides biometric registration, medical examinations, contract and document attestation along with awareness and support services for workers and employers in line with Omani labour law.

Diplomatic sources said the exemption also reflects mutual trust between the two countries and noted that Oman’s efforts to secure the release of detained Filipino nationals in Yemen had created a positive impression among the Filipino public.

Economic cooperation has also been gaining momentum. The Cebu Investment Forum, organised by Oman in Manila earlier this year, helped identify new areas for partnership. A second edition will take place in Muscat next February and is expected to further support commercial and tourism exchange.

Diplomatic experts say the move aligns with Oman’s long-term vision to strengthen its international profile and broaden economic partnerships. It is also expected to support growth in tourist arrivals and contribute to more sustainable cooperation between the two countries.
