Phuket Governor Nirat Phongsitthavorn has led a visit to the Phuket Provincial Integrated Waste Disposal Center to review waste management operations and discuss immediate steps to reduce landfill use. The trip followed a meeting with executives of the local administrative organization and included representatives from the Provincial Administrative Organization, Phuket City Municipality, and other local authorities.

The governor warned that the existing landfill area of more than 100 rai may not be sufficient in the long term. He urged the rapid implementation of food waste separation to reduce the volume of waste sent to landfill sites, noting that the process can begin right away using existing trucks and equipment without major additional investment.

Governor Nirat encouraged local authorities to start with practical, manageable actions and expand them over time, stressing that early progress would help ease pressure on the province’s waste system. Flexible approaches tailored to local conditions were also encouraged to ensure effective implementation.

Nirat reaffirmed the province’s full support for all local administrative organizations, including municipalities and subdistrict administrations. He added that the province will respect the authority of local administrations while remaining ready to provide support and coordination to ensure optimal outcomes.
