Saudi Arabia’s General Directorate of Passports has urged citizens planning to travel outside the Kingdom to safeguard passports at all times, warning against damage, loss, neglect, pledging or misuse.

The authority stressed that passports must be kept in safe places both inside and outside the Kingdom, highlighting that protecting official travel documents is a legal and personal responsibility.

The directorate confirmed that passport validity must not be less than three months prior to departure when travelling to Arab countries, and six months for travel to other countries.

It also clarified that the digital national ID available through Absher and Tawakkalna, as well as the family register, does not authorise travel outside the Kingdom.

The General Directorate of Passports added that all citizens are required to activate their passports electronically after renewal. Activation can be completed by visiting passport departments or branches, or designated offices at international ports.

The directorate confirmed that no prior appointment is required to complete the passport activation process.

The reminder forms part of ongoing efforts to ensure smooth travel procedures for citizens and to reduce disruptions at departure points.
