Saudi Arabia nears 80-year life expectancy as Vision 2030 health reforms deliver gains

Saudi Arabia has strengthened its position as a global health leader, with new data from the World Health Organisation and the World Bank showing a sharp acceleration in the Kingdom’s Universal Health Coverage index over the past two decades.

The improvement reflects the impact of the comprehensive health transformation programme under Vision 2030.

According to the latest update, Saudi Arabia’s Universal Health Coverage score reached 83 points, representing a nine-point increase in just two years and placing the Kingdom among countries with high levels of health coverage.

Saudi healthcare boost

The achievement underscores the success of the country’s modern health model and reinforces its standing among the most advanced G20 and global nations, while directly supporting UN Sustainable Development Goal 3.8.

Health outcomes have also improved significantly. Life expectancy has risen from approximately 74 years in 2016 to about 79.7 years in 2025, bringing the Kingdom close to its Vision 2030 target of 80 years.

The gains have been driven by a strategy focused on strengthening prevention and primary care, expanding early detection programmes and improving the readiness of healthcare facilities.

Rapid digital transformation has played a central role, with platforms such as Sehhaty and the Seha Virtual Hospital enhancing access to services and improving efficiency across the healthcare system.

The Ministry of Health has attributed these achievements to Vision 2030’s emphasis on prevention, the empowerment of primary care and the rollout of digital health solutions.

The ministry has also reiterated its commitment to sustaining reform momentum to further consolidate Saudi Arabia’s global position in healthcare.
