Saudi introduces new regulatory standards for juice shops
The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing has announced new regulatory requirements for juice shops in Saudi Arabia, designed to enhance compliance, strengthen food safety measures, and ensure proper preparation, storage, and serving practices.
The updated framework outlines detailed planning and operational standards for juice outlets and kiosks.
Under the new rules, shops must operate only within approved commercial zones or designated centres. Kiosks are prohibited near entrances or crowded areas unless a minimum distance of six meters is maintained, while those located in mall parking areas will require municipal approval.
To reduce contamination risks, all shops are now required to maintain clearly separated areas for preparation, serving, and storage. Businesses must also display complete product lists with ingredients, potential allergens, and accurate preparation details. The sale or display of beverages that do not meet Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) specifications is strictly prohibited.
Additional measures include adherence to recommended refrigeration standards, visible price lists, and signage featuring the unified Saudi Business Centre QR code. Shops must also offer electronic payment options and display health-awareness materials for customers.
The new regulations further require proper waste management, including sealed containers and separate collection areas away from food preparation zones.
According to the ministry, the updated standards are part of ongoing efforts to raise public health standards, enhance service quality, and align commercial activities with Saudi Arabia’s broader municipal modernisation goals.
