Sharjah approves new licensing system to regulate beekeeping activities
The Sharjah Executive Council has approved a new licensing mechanism for beekeeping activities in the emirate, aimed at regulating the sector, supporting beekeepers and safeguarding local bee populations.
The decision was taken during the Council’s regular meeting, chaired by H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Sharjah Executive Council, at the Ruler’s Office on Tuesday.
The meeting was attended by H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi and H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, both Deputy Rulers of Sharjah and Deputy Chairmen of the Council.
During the session, the Council discussed a range of agenda items focused on monitoring the performance of government departments and authorities, enhancing institutional efficiency and supporting key sectors and employees across the emirate, with the aim of improving the quality of public services.
As part of its review, the Council examined the strategic pillars for developing the organic honey sector in Sharjah. This included an assessment of best practices and benchmarking at local, Gulf and international levels, as well as partnerships with other government entities, project objectives, licensing procedures and the proposed implementation roadmap.
Sharjah regulates beekeeping with new licences
The approved licensing mechanism covers both beekeepers and site usage, and is intended to regulate beekeeping activities in line with defined requirements. The Council said the system will support and empower beekeepers by enabling them to obtain licences, access government and financing programmes, and operate within a clear regulatory framework.
The mechanism also aims to protect local bee species from diseases and pests, enhance food security through high-quality local honey production, and reduce violations and irregular practices within the sector.
In addition, the Council reviewed a report on the Government of Sharjah’s participation in GITEX Global 2025. The report highlighted outcomes linked to the emirate’s objectives in innovation and digital integration, and outlined projects presented under four main themes: digital experiences, environmental sustainability, smart cities and humanitarian initiatives.
The report also covered related activities, including the Sharjah Digital Hackathon and the recognition of government employees who graduated from the Artificial Intelligence Academy. It noted agreements and memoranda of understanding signed with government entities to enhance services and accelerate digital transformation.
The Council further reviewed a report on the performance of district councils across the emirate, detailing implemented initiatives, community services, facilities and future development plans aimed at improving service quality and strengthening community engagement in Sharjah’s cities and regions.
